He passed away peacefully with his wife and children at his side. Mr. Lanier was preceded in death by his parents Donald Sidney and Alma Drude Lanier, and his brother Herbert Lanier, all of Ponchatoula. He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Nell Townsend Lanier, daughter Patricia Lanier of Lafayette, Louisiana, son Mike Lanier (Larke), and grandsons, Cole and Todd Lanier, all of Birmingham, Alabama. Additional survivors include his brother Eugene Lanier of Lafayette, Louisiana and sister Eugenie Lanier Miller of Ponchatoula, Louisiana, as well as multiple nieces and nephews. Mr. Lanier was a graduate of Ponchatoula High School and the founder and longtime owner of Metropolitan Erection Company in New Orleans. Through his work Mr. Lanier was recognized as a leader in the construction industry in South Louisiana, serving on the boards of multiple trade organizations and associations. He also served, at the appointment of the Governor, on the State of Louisiana Contractor Licensing Board for several terms. He came to know the Lord in 1971 and in 1974 felt His calling to join the Gideon's International ministry organization. He continued in his service and participation with the Gideon's until recent months. Through this group he had the opportunity to distribute bibles to 5th graders, trade schools, nursing homes, and hotels. He also began speaking in local churches about the Gideon ministry and mission, raising support. He was blessed with the opportunity to travel to Venezuela, India, and South Africa distributing bibles and telling people about Christ. In addition, he served for six years as the Louisiana State President of this organization. One of his greatest joys with this group was their service to the prisoners in Angola State Penitentiary where he saw the Holy Spirit working in miraculous ways. Mr. Frank and Ms. Nell were active members of Woodland Park Baptist Church until recent months, where he taught a couple's Sunday School class. Yerington, Nev. -- John D. Lanier Jr., 76, a Ponchatoula native, died April 11, 2001, in South Lyon Medical Center in Yerington, Nev. Mr. Lanier was a graduate of Ponchatoula High School. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1942 at age 17 and served for 20 years. Honors and medals received during his enlistment included the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal, World War II Victory Medal, National Defense Medal, Korean Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, and several good conduct awards. Lt. Colonel Les d. Lanier 92, of Germantown passed away January 16, 2010. Born July 27, 1917 to Terresita Marie Reine and Leon Tremont Lanier, he was one of nine children. Colonel Lanier graduated from Amite High School, Amite, Louisiana in 1934. After a brief stint working in the family printing business, he attended Louisiana State University from 1938-1940 and later completed a degree in Engineering from University of Omaha in 1960. He then enlisted with the Louisiana National Guard 106th Cavalry in 1937 and the Army Air Corps in 1940. As a second lieutenant Colonel Lanier served as a flight instructor at Greenville AFB, Smyrna AFB, and Maxwell Field (Alabama). As a B-29 Aircraft Commander in 1945 he was assigned to the 20th Air Force on Guam. Colonel Lanier's last mission in World War II was a flyover of the USS Missouri where General Douglas McArthur was presiding over the surrender of the Japanese. Colonel Lanier married Sybil Arlene Hamilton of Lucy, Tennessee on October 3, 1942. They had two sons Boyd Lee Lanier and Jeffery Hamilton Lanier. After World War II Colonel Lanier returned to civilian life for a short time before being recalled to active duty in 1953. He was assigned to Strategic Air Command in the 95th Bomb Wing (Biggs AFB) as an Aircraft Commander in B-36 and B-52s and served as Wing and Air Division Director of Safety until 1962. In 1962 he was transferred to the United States Air Forces in Europe to serve as Director of Ground Safety until 1965. At that time he returned to the Eglin AFB where he served as Range Safety Officer until he retired in 1967. Colonel Lanier remained in active employment until 1981. He worked in various capacities including: Civil Service Safety Officer with the Air University, Maxwell AFB (Alabama), the Directorate of Contract Administration Service (Boston, MA), and a Supervisor for Tennessee Occupational Safety and Health Administration. Colonel Lanier was preceded in death by his son Jeffrey Hamilton Lanier. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Sybil Hamilton Lanier, one sister Rose Marie (Jerry) Lanier Pulliam, son Boyd Lee Lanier and his wife Wendy, grandchildren Ian D.
