Survivors include three daughters, Roxanne Maupin and Mary Gordon, both of Orlando, Fla., and Deborrah Calmes of Louisiana; one brother, John LaRock of Independence; and six grandchildren. Visitation will be Friday at Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home, Hammond, from 9 until 10 a.m. The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. at Mater Dolorosa Catholic Church, Independence. Burial will be at Colonial Mausoleum. *************************************************************************** Obituary published in The Hammond Daily Star on: 6/6/2006 LaROCK, JOHN GORDEN Independence - John Gorden LaRock, 87 years old of Independence, died Monday, June 5, 2006 at Hammond Nursing Home. He was born, January 19, 1919 in Independence, Louisiana, son of the late John and Selina Genovese LaRock. He was a former Mayor of Independence; member of American Legion Post 109, Lyons Club, and the Knights of Columbus Council #5627 all of Independence. Mr. LaRock was a retired U.S. Air Force Colonel, having served in World War II and the Korean Conflict. Surviving are are numerous nieces, cousins, and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his wife Mary Thrash LaRock, and 1 brother Dominick James LaRock. Friends will be received Wednesday, June 7, 2006 at Harry McKneely & Son in Hammond from 8 AM until 10 AM. Mass will be at Mater Dolorosa Catholic Church for 10:30 Am on Wednesday, conducted by Rev Paul McDuffie, V.F., followed by interment in Colonial Cemetery Mausoleum.
