I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust." Psalm 91:1,2. Monica Lynn Latham was killed in an automobile accident on Saturday, July 7, 2007, at the age of 17. Visitation at Walker Baptist Church, Walker, was on Monday, July 9, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Visitation resumes at the church on Tuesday from 8 a.m. until religious service at 10 a.m., conducted by Dr. Richard Blue and the Rev. Ray McCon. Burial in Springcreek Cemetery, Kentwood. She is survived by her parents, Earl "Bert" and Richelle Smith Latham; sister, Alisha Latham; maternal grandmother, ZilphaLea Smith; uncles and aunts, Mike and Dale Latham, Tony and Connie Oubre, and Brian and Cathy LeJeune; cousins, Amber Latham, Bruce and Jennifer LeJeune and their daughter, Megan, Paul and Kim Genre and their sons, Tyler and Andrew, and Zachary and Becky Oubre. Preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Earl and Willie Mae Latham; and maternal grandfather, Richard P. Smith. Pallbearers will be Roy Bodoin, Carl Bennett, E.J. Lapeyrouse, Lance Milton, Chris Rushing and Leland Steele. She was an active member of Walker Baptist Church, where she was preparing to be a counselor for the youth. She was employed with Leaps & Bounds and enjoyed playing with all children - the more the better. She loved all animals and wanted to take home all strays, including sick ones. Monica loved to fish, especially with her daddy. She was a great softball player and was loved by her teammates. Monica was a loving, compassionate and funny daughter, sister and friend. She will be indescribably missed, even though we know she is in heaven with her Papaw. We love her very much and will miss her always.
