She was 82, born on Oct. 11, 1922, in Hammond, the daughter of the late Reuben Malcolm and Sarah Annie Stilley Albin. She was a retired educator for the Tangipahoa Parish school system, a member of the Retired Teachers Association, past member of the Missionary Society, member of First United Methodist Church and a Sunday school teacher. Surviving are her husband, Ralph Arthur Lipscomb of Hammond; son, Ralph Arthur Lipscomb Jr. of Hammond; two daughters, Dale Lipscomb Kowalski of Rochester, N.Y., and Linda Lipscomb DeRosa of Covington; grandson, Troy Dion DeRosa; granddaughter, Rachael Ann Lipscomb Lites; and great-grandson, Troy Dion DeRosa Jr. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Sybil Lott and Jane Willis. Friends will be received Friday, Sept. 23, at First United Methodist Church, Hammond, from 10:30 a.m. until service at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Ken Bowman officiating. Visitation at Rabenhorst East, 11000 Florida Blvd., on Thursday, Nov. 29, from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m., with a brief prayer service at 5 p.m. Graveside service will be held at Woodland Cemetery, Kentwood, on Friday, Nov. 30, at 11:15 a.m. Inez was born March 15, 1921, in Kentwood, the daughter of Henry Redo Hughes and Thelma Inez Hammons. Inez married Richard Rowley Lipscomb on June 7, 1941, in the home of the Rev. Dearman in Kentwood. Richard and Inez started their life together in Clinton, and after the beginning of World War II, Richard accepted a position with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, which moved them to Shreveport, Vicksburg, Miss., and then Little Rock, Ark. Richard then transferred to the Canadian Yukon territory while Inez came back to her home in Kentwood while she worked for the telephone company in Hammond. When Richard returned from the Canadian Yukon, they made their home in Baton Rouge and had two sons, John Pemble Lipscomb and Rodney Kent Lipscomb, their pride and joy. Inez was extremely proud of her sons, who showed great devotion to their mother and father. Inez was an active member of the Baton Rouge community and her churches, Belfair Presbyterian Church and, later, Broadmoor Presbyterian Church. She was active in the Heirome Gaines chapter of the DAR, where she received a certificate of recognition for outstanding work on the American Indians Committee. Inez was also active working with the Cub Scouts and the Baton Rouge Homemakers Council, which was affiliated with the LSU Extension Service. She was a past president of the Sharp Homemaker Club and an excellent cook. A gentle soul, Inez always strived to do the right thing, leaving this world with no regrets. Inez was preceded in death by her mother, Thelma Inez Hammons, and father, Henry Redo Hughes; grandmothers, Nola Irene Hammons and Courtney Ophelia Dillon Raley; uncles, Walter William Hammons and his wife, Garland, Joe Lee Hammons and his wife, Uda, James Clifton Hammons, Arthur Wallace Hammons and his wife, Virginia, and Virgil Hammons and his wife, Estelle. Inez was one of the fifth generation of Hammons, all of whom lived in Kentwood within a few blocks of one another. Inez is survived by her beloved husband of 66 years, Richard Rowley Lipscomb; son, John Pemble Lipscomb, Ph.D., of Whitfield, Miss., and his friend, Karen Holloway; son, Rodney Kent Lipscomb, and daughter-in-law, Elizabeth Titterington Lipscomb, of Genessee; sister, Beatrice Crawford of Vidor, Texas, and her son, Wayne; brother, R.H. "Jack" Hughes, and sister-in-law, Dorothy Rester Hughes, of Kentwood, and their children, Jack, Mark and Paul; nephews, Larry Jones, David Lipscomb and Kenneth Lipscomb; her aunt, Marguerite Hammons Dye; and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews. He was a resident of Hammond for the past 28 years. He was the son of the late John William Lipscomb and Elizabeth Dreher; his wife is the former Daisy Collins of Clinton, La. To this union seven sons and two daughters were born: Edwin R., Charlie C., Robert H., Dick Dreher, all of Hammond, Landry J. Lipscomb of Baton Rouge, C. Littleton Lipscomb and James E. Lipscomb, late of Monroe; Mrs. O. C. Luther of Monroe and Mrs. R. V. Coumes of Ponchatoula. Other survivors include four brothers, Charlie W. of Hammond, J. I. of Baton Rouge, R. D. of Greenwell Springs and Roscoe Lipscomb of Oaknolla, La.; one sister, Mrs. T. W. Lovett of Baton Rouge; 18 grandchildren and 17 nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held last Monday from Poole Funeral Home, with interment in Greenlawn cemetery. He was born May 29, 1911, in Norwood, the son of William "Lynn" F. Lipscomb and Julia Pemble Lipscomb. Richard married Inez Hughes on June 7, 1941, in the home of the Rev. Dearman in Kentwood. Richard and Inez started their life together in Clinton. Richard retired in 1976 as secretary-treasurer of Community Coffee Inc., and was the past president of the Baton Rouge Association of Accountants. Richard was also a member of the Stuart Cameron McLeod Society, an organization for past national officers and directors of the National Association of Accountants. Earlier in his career, he had served in various positions with the Civilian Conservation Corps followed by an appointment by the LSU Extension Services as district secretary to the Bogue Chitto-Pearl River Soil Conservation District with headquarters in Kentwood. Prior to World War II, he was appointed as the project superintendent of the first project between the Soil Conservation Corps and the Works Progress Administration, overseeing projects in East and West Feliciana parishes. As war appeared imminent, the project closed and Richard joined the Corps of Engineers at their Shreveport office. From there he went to Minden with the Ordinance Department. He was subsequently transferred to the Vicksburg branch of the General Accounting Office then went to Little Rock, ending up in the Canadian Yukon, where he worked at the Whitehorse, Yukon, Office of the Corps of Engineers. Another move led to Watson Lake, Yukon Territory, where he served as administrative assistant to the chief project engineer on the airport construction and a section of the Alaskan Highway. Richard loved classical music and gardening. He spent many enjoyable hours on his patio, which was covered with beautiful flowers and plants. Richard and Inez were members of Broadmoor Presbyterian Church. He, with the help of Inez, spent many years researching the Lipscomb Family history and in 1978 published The Lipscombs of East Feliciana, a Virginia Heritage. They continued their interest in genealogy and researched Inez's family meeting many people along the journey. He was a great husband, father and provider for his family, and a true friend to all who knew him. Richard will be greatly missed. He was preceded in death by his wonderful and loving wife of 66 years, Inez Hughes Lipscomb, who was a native of Kentwood; his father, William "Lynn" F. Lipscomb; mother, Julia Pemble Lipscomb; three brothers, Wilbur S., Elvis F. and Clarence E. Lipscomb; and two sisters, Mildred Lipscomb James and Ida Lipscomb Jones. Richard is survived by his sons, John Pemble Lipscomb and fiancée Karen M. Holloway, of Brandon, Miss., and Rodney Kent Lipscomb and daughter-in-law, Elizabeth Titterington Lipscomb, of Hammond; a brother and sister-in-law, Jack and Dorothy Hughes, of Kentwood; and sister-in-law, Beatrice Crawford of Vidor, Texas.
