Hester was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. She will be remembered most for her joy of life, her good nature, the good health she was blessed with for 88 years, and the love she had for her family. She retired from central supply at Lane Memorial Hospital, Zachary, in 1992. Hester's life's dream was to be a nurse. Although she was never formally trained, she worked as a nurse for Dr. Richard Berthelot and Dr. B.B. Lane. She also worked for many years at the Zachary Stockyard. He was the first minority to train at the LSU Experiment Station in St. Joseph. He taught agronomy and coached football at Tangipahoa Parish Training School. "Papa" was the first farm manager of the State Industrial School in Baker. He worked with the Extension Service and PMA, forerunner of the Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service. He joined Farmers Home Administration in 1951 and filled various positions within that agency before becoming a special projects representative and the FmHA Indian Affairs coordinator for Louisiana. For his outstanding service for the state of Louisiana in agriculture, he received numerous awards. He was presented the Superior Service Award in 1979 by the secretary of agriculture. This award is the second highest presented by the department and recognized "Papa" Lloyd's work with the Comprehensive Education and Training Act. In June of 1987, Ronald J. Lloyd retired as Assistant Chief of Police for the City of Hammond, after having worked for 26 years. He was a charter member of the "Ronald Reagan Republican Presidential Task Force" and served in the United States Army in the 12th Ordinance Battalion from 1954 through 1957. Ronald was a member of Woodland Park Baptist Church. A native of Oneida, Tennessee, and a resident of Hammond, he passed away Sunday, January 27, 2008, leaving his beloved wife of 40 years, Ruby Craig Lloyd; two sons, Allen Lloyd, Ronnie and Sarrah Lloyd, all of Hammond.
