Logan, O.P., 81 years old, passed away Wednesday, June 6, 2012, at North Oaks Medical Center. He was born on Tuesday, June 10, 1930, in New Haven, CT, son of the late James F. and Laura Mae Condon Logan. Fr. J. D. Logan, O.P. joined the Dominican Order in the Province of St. Joseph (Eastern Province) in 1950. He professed vows on Aug. 11, 1951 and was ordained to the priesthood on June 11, 1957. He joined the Province of St. Martin de Porres (Southern Province) when it was formed. For the first four years of ministry he was a Parochial Vicar at Sacred Heart Parish in New Jersey. For the next two years he served as a Missionary and Rector of the Cathedral of San Pedro in Chimbote, Peru. Over the next fifteen years or so, he served mostly as an instructor or Director at Iona College in New Rochelle, NY, at the House of Studies in Washington, D.C., and then at Pacific School of Religion in Berkeley, CA. For the next two years he served as Syndic for the Province. He then served as Dan of Students and Vice-Rector at St. Joseph Seminary College in Covington, LA He was Director of Campus Ministry first at the University of Houston and then Stephen F. Austin State University. He then served as Chaplain and Rector of the Church of the Incarnation at the University of Dallas. He was chaplain for the nuns at the Monastery of the Infant Jesus in Lufkin, TX until 2011. Fr. J.D.Ős final assignment was doing parish supply work at St. Joseph Church in Ponchatoula, LA. Surviving are his sister, Ann Logan Bedford and her husband Bruce and several nieces. He is preceded in death by brother, James F. Logan. Friends will be received on Wednesday, June 13, 2012, from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. and again on Thursday, June 14, 2012, from 9 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Ponchatoula. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church, on Thursday, June 14, 2012, at 10:30 am. Interment will follow in the Rosaryville Cemetery at a later date.
