Albany - Lonnie Deurell Lowe Jr., 58, died Monday, Aug. 21, 2000, at Landmark Nursing Home, Hammond. He was a native of Albany, a millwright and a U.S. Navy veteran. Survivors include his mother, Dorothy Marie Lowe, Dinero, Texas; daughter, Wendy Lowe, Bastrop; three sons, David Lowe, Albany, Bobby Lowe, Norfolk, Va., Glen Lowe, Adairsville, Ga.; sister, Marie Oler, Dinero, Texas; and three granddaughters. His father, Lonnie Deurell Lowe Sr., preceded him in death. Visitation will be at Blood River Baptist Church, Albany, tonight from 6 to 10 and Friday from 8 a.m. until the funeral at 11. The Rev. Victor Roudkovsky and the Rev. Charles Reitz will conduct the service, and burial will be in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made at the Hancock Bank in Albany. Geisler Funeral Home, Albany, is in charge. *************************************************************************** Obituary published in The Advocate (Baton Rouge): 3/9/2009 LOWE, THURMAN MARION, III "RION" Thurman Marion Lowe III was known to friends and family as "Rion." Only 24, Rion died early Friday morning, March 6, 2009, after being struck by a pickup truck while walking home with a group of friends in Hammond. Rion was a communications major at Southeastern Louisiana University but was sitting out the semester and working at the WalMart Distribution Center in Robert. He loved playing sports and video games and just hanging around with his friends and his beloved dog, Trip. Originally from Kenner, Rion graduated from John Curtis Christian School where he played football, basketball and track. He moved to Hammond to attend Southeastern where he was a javelin thrower on the track team for one year and an outside linebacker on the football team for one year. His love of sports kept him active playing flag-football and basketball on campus. Rion was a nice, caring, friendly guy who would do anything for anyone. He was also funny - he liked to make people laugh. He has many friends who will miss him terribly. Rion is survived by his mother and father, Cindy and Thurman "Buddy" Lowe Jr.; younger brothers, Kyle and Shane; grandparents, Joan and Ken Howes and Joann and Thurman Lowe Sr.; seven aunts, an uncle and 12 cousins. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the funeral service at Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home chapel, 4747 Veterans Blvd., near Clearview Parkway, Metairie, on Wednesday, March 11, at 11 a.m. Interment in Howes Cemetery, Ponchatoula.
