She was a native of Wellsville, N.Y., and a former longtime resident of Tampa, Fla. She was a retired nurse at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center cardiology unit. Funeral service will be in Tampa and a reception will be in Zachary at the home of her daughter, Tashia Cheveallier, on Monday, Jan. 10. She was 78. Beloved and devoted wife of Loyus "Luke" Lucas for 60 years. Proud and loving mother of Deanna Lucas. Sister of Phyllis Andrieu (Hank). Also survived by a half-sister, Susan Revall; sisters-in-law, Linda Engelbracht and Deanna Lambert (Donald) and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. Preceded in death by her beloved mother, Rosella Williamson; her brother, Frank Engelbracht, her half-brother, James Engelbracht and her mother and father-in-law, Clarence and Eula Lucas, whom she adored. Edna was born in New Orleans and was a longtime resident of Metairie and Hammond. She worked as an office manager at various jobs until she and Luke were blessed with the adoption of their cherished daughter. Her greatest joy was derived from caring for her family, friends and many cherished cats. Other lifelong activities she enjoyed were cooking, sewing, quilting and reading. She also volunteered at St. Vincent de Paul in Hammond, supported St. Francis Animal Sanctuary and helped family and friends whenever needed. After her husband retired, they were able to enjoy many vacations throughout the U.S., Canada and Europe. The family wishes to express sincere appreciation to the Internal Medical Clinic of Tangipahoa, Generations Hospice, Legacy Hospice and North Oaks Medical Center for their compassion and care. Born on Oct. 22, 1918, in Gonzales, Margerie moved to Ponchatoula at age six where she spent her childhood. Her professional career was spent working for the Louisiana Board of Mineral Resources for 30-plus years. She found great joy in volunteer work for many organizations, including the Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank of which she was its archivist for years, Louisiana Senior Olympics, National Senior Games, RSVP, the Council on Aging, and she belonged to the Desk and Derrick Club of which she was 1976 captain and the 1980 queen of its Mardi Gras Ball. Margerie received numerous awards, including WAFB-TV's "Power of 9" honor, the Silver Magnolias and others too numerous to mention. She avidly crocheted and donated handmade blankets and hats to local cancer patients and will be fondly remembered for her love of animals and gardening. She is survived by her grandsons, Richard Lucas III and Mike Spano, with whom she lived; daughter, Anita Lucas Noland and husband Ray; granddaughter, Lisa Noland Varnado and husband Gerald; great-granddaughter, Britni Garner; and great-great-granddaughter, Sydni Garner; great-great-granddaughter, Kae'Lyn Lucas; great-granddaughter, Alyssa Varnado; daughter, Juanita Lucas Hicks and husband Ward, and their children; son, Rick Lucas and wife Mandie, and their daughter; and numerous cousins and wonderful friends.
