She was a native of Milo, Iowa, and lived in DesMoines, Iowa. She is survived by one daughter, Glenda Ludwig Devine; two brothers, J. Truman Wood and Robert L. Wood; and two grand- children. She was preceded in death by her husband, George Earl Ludwig; her parents, Tyler and Emma Chumbley Wood; two sisters, Dorothy Beaver and Ruth Cagle; and two brothers, Dale Wood and Gerald Wood. Visitation will be Saturday at Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home, Metairie, from 9:30 a.m. until the funeral at noon. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of the Delta. *************************************************************************** Obituary published in the Hammond Daily Star on: 11/27/2011 LUDWIG, WILLIAM William (Bill) Ludwig, died November 20, 2011, at Hospice House in Hammond, LA. He was 76 years old. He is survived by wife, Elaine, a sister, Alison McLean, a niece and three nephews. Bill was born in 1935 in Hartford, CT. He served in the U.S. Army in Germany from 1953 to 1956 and subsequently attended the University of Connecticut for four years under the GI Bill. He went on to earn a BFA at Hartford Art School and an MFA at Newcomb College in sculpture in 1968. That same year he began a cooperative foundry with another sculptor and had his first one-man show at a professional gallery. Ludwig managed his own studio/foundry operation in New Orleans from 1972 to 1985 when he designed and built his own art casting foundry/studio in Albany, LA. Since receiving his MFA, Ludwig has worked as a sculptor and has participated in numerous juried and invitational shows, 30 one-man shows and 26 two-person shows. He has also served on the faculties at Loyola and Tulane Universities in New Orleans. Ludwig created and cast the Louisiana Vietnam Veterans' Memorial at the Superdome, the portrait of Malcolm Woldenberg and his grandson for Woldenberg Park near the Aquarium, and the statue of fictional character Ignatius Reilly from The Confederacy of Dunces for the Chateau Sonesta Hotel on Canal Street. He also sculpted a life-sized bronze Crucified Christ and the Virgin Mary as a young girl for St. Luke the Evangelist Church in Slidell. Other public sculptures include two citrus workers for Leu Gardens in Orlando, FL and an older man and young boy seated in conversation for Presbyterian Homes in Lake Forest, IL. Bill was a member of four high-IQ organizations: MENSA, ISPE, Triple Nine Society and Intertel. There will not be a funeral, and in lieu of flowers, contributions to North Oaks Hospice, P. O. Box 2668, Hammond, LA 70404 or to Richard Murphy Hospice House, 16013 Halbert Rd., Hammond, LA 70403 would be appreciated. A Celebration of Bill's Life will take place at Mariners' Inn, 117 West Thomas, Hammond, LA 70401 on Tuesday, November 29th between 2:00 and 4:30 P.M.
