He entered the Novitiate at the Dominican House of Studies, River Forest, IL in 1950 and was ordained a priest at St. Rose Priory, Dubuque, IA on May 25, 1957. In Louisiana, Father was Director of St. Albert Catholic Student Center, Southeastern Louisiana University, Hammond (1983-86), Chaplain, Hammond Developmental Center, School for Retarded Children (1980-88) and Associate Chaplain (1978-79), Parochial Vicar, St. Helena Parish, Amite (1979-80), Mater Dolorosa Parish, Independence (1967-77), St. Joseph Parish, Ponchatoula (1964-67) and St. Dominic Parish, New Orleans (1962-1964). Father was a native of Chicago, IL, where he ministered in parish work in the Archdiocese of Chicago from 1989-2009 and Elizabethton, TN (1988-89). He is survived by nieces, Mary Moore and Cathy Mischler, a nephew, Richard Davis, also great nieces and nephews. His parents, Richard and Catherine O'Brien Macleay, a brother, John Macleay and a sister, Mary Catherine Macleay, preceded him in death. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 225 N. Eighth Street, Ponchatoula, LA 70454 on Saturday, January 23, 2010 at 10:00 A.M. Interment will follow in the Dominican Friars Cemetery, Rosaryville (near Ponchatoula), LA. A Funeral Mass was also celebrated at St. Barnabas Catholic Church, Chicago, IL on Tuesday, January 19, 2010. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Dominican Friars Retirement Fund, 1421 N. Causeway Blvd. Metairie, LA 70001, preferred.
