Joseph P. Magro Sr., 82, of Hammond, died Friday, June 3, 2011, in North Oaks Medical Center. He was born in Chicago on Monday, July 9, 1928, and served in the U.S. Marine Corps. Survived by his wife, Bessie Iverstine Magro; three sons, Joseph P. Magro and wife Christy, Daniel Lee Magro and wife Linda, and Alan Keith Magro; six grandchildren, Jessica Magro Hare, Julie Magro Ruffner, Amy Joelle Magro, Daniel Lee Magro Jr., Chad Joseph Magro and Todd Keith Magro; and four great-grandchildren, Daniel Lee Magro III, Hope Elizabeth Magro, Emma Sophia Magro and Chase Daniel Magro. He was preceded in death by his mother, Frances Varisco; and father, Peter Magro. Friends will be received at Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home in Hammond on Sunday, June 5, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Visitation resumes at the funeral home Monday, June 6, from 9 a.m. until funeral service in the chapel at 10 a.m., officiated by Deacon Wallace Gainey.
