She was 89, a resident of Baton Rouge and a native of Mt. Herman. She was a homemaker. Religious services were held at Seale Funeral home in Denham Springs, interment at Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery in Liberty, MS. She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Violet and J.D. Hunt, Kentwood and Gladys Arlene and Michael Foster, Baton Rouge; two step-daughters, Mary B. Napeir, and Margie Day; two step-sons, C.T. and Roy Mahaffey; three grandchildren, Rose H. Marez and Mark and Moses Hunt; nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Daniel Mahaffey; her parents, William Harvey and Laura Ledford Biddix; and a step-son, J.D. Mahaffey. She was a longtime member of Bogue Chitto Baptist Church, near Mt. Hermon. *************************************************************************** Obituary published in The Advocate (Baton Rouge) on: 3/6/2011 MAHAFFEY, ROY FORD Roy Ford Mahaffey, 85, of Gillsburg, Miss., died Friday, March 4, 2011, at Field Memorial Community Hospital in Centreville, Miss. He was born Feb. 15, 1926, in Osyka, Miss. He was a dairyman and a retired supervisor at Louisiana State Hospital with 14 years of service. He is survived by his wife, Mary Rose Travis Mahaffey; two sons, Ernest Mahaffey and Tommy Mahaffey and his wife, Shirley, all of Gillsburg; daughter, Darlene Varnado and husband, Jerry, Greensburg; five grandchildren, Tommy Mahaffey Jr., Glory Parham, Douglas Mahaffey Sr., Daniel Mahaffey and Lonnie Ann Moore; 15 great-grandchildren; sister, Margie Dean Day; two half sisters, Gladys Foster and Violet Hunt; and a host of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Eliza Jane Shely and James Daniel Mahaffey; son, Wayne Mahaffey; son-in-law, Lonnie Moore; two brothers, John Mahaffey and Albert Mahaffey; two half brothers, J.D. Mahaffey and C.T. Mahaffey; and half sister, Mary Belle Napier. Visitation at New Zion Baptist Church, Kentwood, on Sunday, March 6, from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. Visiting resumes at the church on Monday, March 7, from 8 a.m. until religious services at 2 p.m., conducted by the Rev. Richard Sandberg. Interment in New Zion Cemetery, Kentwood.
