Mancil, 76, died Saturday, April 20, 2002, at James A. Haley Veterans Hospital in Tampa. A native of Pitkin, he was a resident of Tampa, a World War II veteran and a professor emeritus of geography and anthropology at Southeastern Louisiana University. Survivors include his wife, Joan Mancil of Tampa; a son, Mark Mancil of Harrison, Ark.; a stepson, Mark Claytor of Lamoore, Calif.; stepdaughters, Dori Holmes and Nita Claytor, both of Tampa, and Kim Hennis of Plano, Texas; two brothers, Robert Mancil of Longview, Texas, and Leo Mancil of Pitkin; a sister, Lottie Thompson of Pitkin; seven grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. *************************************************************************** Obituary published in The Hammond Daily Star on: 5/2/2003 MANCIL, THOMAS W. SR. Tickfaw - Thomas W. Mancil Sr., 51, died Wednesday, April 30, 2003, at his home. He was a native of Auburn, Ala., and a member of Agape Fellowship Church, Tickfaw. He is survived by his wife, Ave Amengual Mancil of Tickfaw; two sons, Thomas Mancil Jr. of Tickfaw and Charles Clark of Springfield; two daughters, Dena Quave of Killian and Jill Jones of Bloomington, Ill.; seven sisters, Brenda Carpenter of Shreveport, Linda Tucker and Diane Clark, both of Tickfaw, Doris Dardar, Beverly Weaver, Patricia Dardar and Olivia Mancil, all of St. Bernard; and eight grand- children. His parents, Leonard and Janice Arrington Mancil, preceded him in death. Visitation will be Monday at Geisler Funeral Home, Hammond, from noon until the funeral at 2 p.m. Burial will be in Rose Memorial Cemetery, Hammond. ***************************************************************************
