A longtime resident of Slidell who moved to Hammond two years ago, Raymond Virgil Mangus Sr. passed away on Monday, April 27, 2009. He was born in Denver on Dec. 17, 1924. He was a U.S. Navy veteran who served during World War II in the Pacific Theater, having earned two battle stars. He graduated from Colorado University as an electrical engineer. He retired from Lockheed-Martin, where he worked in the aerospace and military arms divisions. He was married to Mary Mangus for 56 years. He is survived by his five children, Raymond Mangus Jr., of Florida, Kay Holmes, Charles, Patrick and John Mangus; and nine grandchildren. Friends were received at Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home in Hammond on Thursday, April 30, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Service will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Ponchatoula, on Friday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Randy Cuevas, S.T.L., officiating. Interment in Port Hudson National Cemetery, Zachary.
