"JAKE" A building contractor, he died Thursday, Aug. 18, 2005, in Baton Rouge, at age 78. He was born in Pride on Aug. 7, 1927, and was a resident of Liberty, Miss. He is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Teresa and Joseph Kelly of Bay St. Louis, Miss., and Sherry and Louie Badon of Ponchatoula; three grandchildren, Tammy and husband Dr. Justin Strittmatter of Panama City, Fla., Taylor Kelly of Bay St. Louis and Connie Hatfield of Ponchatoula; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Juanita and Ulysses Pinell of Baker, Callie and Melvin Ashford of Liberty, and Marguerita Phillips of Prairieville; sister-in-law, Catherine Manning of Marietta, Ga., and niece, Beverly and husband Tommy Milioto of Liberty. Preceded in death by his parents, Allie Manning and Bessie Sullivan Manning; wife, Marie Jones Manning; and brother, Maurice Manning Sr. He was a member and deacon of Unity Presbyterian Church of Liberty. Visiting was at Unity Presbyterian Church on La. 569, south of Liberty, on Friday, Aug. 19, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Visiting at the church on Saturday from 11 a.m. until service at 2 p.m., conducted by the Rev. Walt Gaston. Interment in Bethel Cemetery, near Liberty. Brown Funeral Home, Gloster, is in charge of arrangements. ***************************************************************************
