He was 87, a native of Pointe Coupee Parish and a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, having served in the 180th Infantry Regiment. Visiting at Niland's Funeral Home, New Roads, on Wednesday, June 18, from 8:30 a.m. until religious service at 11 a.m., conducted by Deacon Norm Christophe. Interment in False River Memorial Park. Survived by his three sisters, Rose Guerin, of Ventress, Laura Dabney, of New Roads, and Mae David, of Ventress; and three brothers, Ludovic Jr. and Henry Mars, both of Ventress, and Pierre Mars, of Independence. Preceded in death by his father, Ludovic Mars Sr.; and mother, Edmae Robillard Mars; sisters, Enola Mars and Ida Lee St. Romain; and brother, Theodore Mars. Pallbearers will be Mark Mars, Jerry Mars, Mark LeJeune, Brian Beauvais, Fellman Joseph "Trés" Chutz III and Michael Wiley. Honorary pallbearers are Henry Mars, Ludovic Mars Jr. and Fellman Chustz Jr. He was a member of American Legion Post 248. Very special thanks to the staff of Lakeview Manor Nursing Home, Pointe Coupee Hospice and Dr. Brian LeBlanc for the love and care given to Wallace during his illness. ************************************************************************* Obituary published in The Hammond Daily Star on: 10/9/2008 MARS, PIERRE Pierre Mars, 92, a native of Ventress and a resident of Independence, passed away at North Oaks Medical Center on October 7, 2008. He was retired from Gifford Hill where he served as a certified welder and machinery operator. Pierre and his wife attended Mater Dolorosa Catholic Church in Independence. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Isabelle Knaps Mars; daughter, Jeanette Garofalo and husband, Deacon Nat Garofalo; son, Donnie Mars, Sr. and wife Christine Mancuso Mars; four grandchildren, Dr. Genesa Garofalo Abel and husband Rick, Chrystal Kain, Donnie Mars, Jr., and Gabby Mars; along with four great-grandchildren, Justin Kain, Blake Williams, Cohen Mars, and Grant Abel. His parents, two brothers and one sister preceded him in death. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the funeral Mass, officiated by Fr. Chris Romaine, at Mater Dolorosa on Friday, October 10 at 10:30 am. Visitation will be held at the church prior to the Mass from 8:30 am to 10:30 am. Interment will follow at Colonial Mausoleum.
