Dot was born on Wednesday, Sept. 16, 1925. She was an active member of her community and was dedicated to working with the disabled in her 33 years as an employee of Vocational Rehabilitation. She will be remembered for her sweet spirit and her willingness to help others. She will be greatly missed by her survivors, who include her son, John Martens, and daughter, Cindy Martens, both of Hammond, granddaughters, Mequet Martens McDonald and Erica Martens Cox, grandsons-in-law, Greg McDonald and Ryan Cox, and great-grandson, Zachary John McDonald, all of Mobile, Ala. She is also survived by her sisters, Irma Hart and Gilda Posey. She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Harold W. "Bill" Martens; sisters, Edith Chavers and Gladys Brahonovich; brother, Paul Starkey; and her father and mother, George and Ida Albin Starkey. Age 79, a native of Natalbany and a resident of Hammond, Fritz passed away Monday, March 3, 2008, at Lane Regional Medical Center, Zachary. He was retired from the electricians' union and was a well-known electrician in the Hammond area, having worked many years for Universal Electrics. Fritz was proud to have served in the U.S. Army in the Korean War. Anyone who knew Fritz loved him and he will be sadly missed. He is survived by a sister, Frances Martens Hull, of Hammond; two nieces, Janice Amar, of Hammond, and Debbie Parkmann, of Brookhaven, Miss.; and a nephew, Edward Rolling III, of Hammond. Edward Amar III and Travis Rolling Amar, both of Hammond, are Fritz's grand-nephews who also survive him.
