Rico A. Masaracchia, resident of Hammond, LA, and native of New Orleans, passed away Thursday, April 19, 2012 at the age of 85. He was born September 21, 1926. Rico, a veteran of World War 2, served in the United States Army. He retired with 40 years of service as Deputy Undersecretary with the Louisiana Department of Labor. He was also the former owner of Rico's Poboy in downtown Hammond and a long time board member for the Hammond Regional Airport. Surviving are wife, Mary Ann Palmintier Masaracchia; 3 daughters, Peggy Matheu and husband Joaquin "Jr.", Judi Guillotte and husband Claude, Cindy Andrus and husband Don; 2 sons, Ricky Masaracchia and wife Jessica, Tommy Masaracchia and wife Carol; brother, Santo Masaracchia; 6 grandchildren, Patrick, Cathryn, Alex, Zach, Emily, and Christianne and 2 great-grandchildren, Rickie and Joeigh. He was born on Monday, September 10, 1928, in New Orleans, La., son of the late Colegero Masaracchia and the late Antonia Falconello Masaracchia. Mr. Masaracchia was retired from the State of Louisiana Department of Revenue and the Tangipahoa Parish Tax Department. He was also a member of the Hammond Knights of Columbus and was a notary for the State of Louisiana. Surviving are daughter, Carla Richmond and husband Dwight, grandson, Edward P. Richmond and wife Laura Mitcham Richmond, grandson, Samuel O. Richmond and wife Jan Alexander Richmond and grandson, Andrew P. Richmond. He was preceded in death by wife, Mary "Tot" DeMarco Masaracchia, brothers, John Masaracchia and wife Jennie, and Rico Masaracchia. Friends will be received Monday, September 17, 2012 from 8:00 am until 10:45 am at Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home, Hammond.
