He was born in Clarence, Mo. on April 22, 1897; reared in Arkansas and Missouri until he came to Hammond 15 years ago. He married Mrs. Ethel Self of this city. They had two daughters. He is survived by his wife; two daughters, Rachel and Margie Massey; his parents, 2 brothers and 3 sisters of Arkansas; two stepsons and one stepdaughter; a host of nieces and nephews living in Arkansas, Missouri and California. ************************************************************************* Obituary published in The Advocate (Baton Rouge): 3/19/2004 MASSEY, LONNIE MITCHELL Died at 6:18 p.m. Wednesday, March 17, 2004, at North Oaks Medical Center, Hammond, of cancer. He was 91, a native of Bruce, Miss., and a resident of Amite. Visitation at McKneely Funeral Home, Amite, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday and from noon until religious services at 3 p.m. Saturday. Interment in Amite Memorial Gardens, Amite. Survived by two daughters, Joy Massey, Houston, and Ann Sclavounos, Brinklow, Md.; a son, Dr. Mitchell Massey, Bogalusa; five grandchildren, Dino Sclavounos, Wilmington, Del., Kelli Brandt, Columbia, Md., and Collins Massey, James Massey and William Massey, all of Bogalusa; two great-grandchildren, Tyler and Haley Brandt, Columbia; a brother, Ray Massey, Monterey, Calif.; and a sister, Nell Barrett, Albany, Ore. He was preceded in death by his wife, Amy Collins Massey; eight brothers and sisters.
