He was a native of Bayou Blue in Lafourche Parish and lived the majority of his life in the Robert area. He was also a farmer, a carpenter, a boat captain and worked in oil exploration for a Texas oil company. He is survived by his wife, Marie D. Matherne of Hammond; one daughter, Rachel M. Bristow of D'Iberville, Miss.; one son, Henry P. Matherne II of Hammond; two brothers,Emile P. Matherne of Friendswood, Texas, and Ernest S. "Dupe" Matherne Jr. of Bourg; one sister, Gladys G. Nolden of Bedford, Texas; three grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one brother, Henry P. "Matt" Matherne; four sisters, Waltrine M. Her sunrise was on Nov. 1, 1914, and her sunset was on Tuesday, Sept. 12, 2006, at 6:35 a.m. She was 91, the youngest of nine children of Laurent and Rita Latour. She will be remembered for her deep love and devotion to her family and friends. She was a gifted artist and seamstress and had a passion for gardening. She had a wonderful sense of humor and her face would glow when she smiled.
