Survivors include his wife, Rose Lee Matthews, Hammond; three daughters, Diana and Mary Norman, both of California, Betty of Hammond; five sons, Gerald "Tony," Ivan "Ricky," Roosevelt "Roy," Charles "Mano" and Roosevelt Charles, all of Hammond; five sisters, Rosemary Russell, Hilda Francis and Inise Johnson, all of Hammond, Pearl Matthews, Dallas, and Lucy Tillis, Sacramento, Calif.; three brothers, Leroy Matthews, San Antonio, Texas, and Sylvester and Andrew Joe Matthews, both of Hammond; 18 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. A brother, John Henry Matthews Jr., preceded him in death. Visitation will be at Richardson Funeral Home, Hammond, tonight from 6 to 9. The Rev. Mack C. Hurst will conduct the funeral at 12 Saturday at Greater St. James AME Church.
