She was born on Saturday, Sept. 28, 1946, in Covington, La., daughter of the late Leo E. and Nellie Clifton Stanga. Peggy loved the outdoors and fishing. She spent her happiest years with her family at her home on Bedico Creek. She was truly loved by her family and friends and will be sadly missed. Surviving are her husband, Tony Mayo, daughter and son-in-law, Lisa and Wade Liner, son and daughter-in-law, Lance and Crystal Vicknair, step-son, John Mayo, step-daughter, Monica Bratton, 4 grand- children, Chelsi and Amanda Liner, Lawson and Kale Vicknair, sister and brother-in-law, Joanna and Tim Gideon, nieces and great-nephews, Christy, Jamie, Leo, and Zaden Gideon. She is preceded in death by a grandson, Mason A. Vicknair, and infant twin grandchildren. Friends will be received on Sunday, Nov. 11, 2012, from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. at Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home in Ponchatoula. Services will be held in the funeral home chapel in Ponchatoula, on Sunday at 2 p.m., with Rev. Charles Bignar officiating. Interment will follow in the Stanga Cemetery in Bedico, La. The family would like to thank the staff of North Oaks Hospice and Richard Murphy Hospice House for the wonderful care Mrs. Mayo received. At age 78, she died Tuesday, Dec. 21, 2004, at Sherwood Manor Rehabilitation and Nursing Home. At her side as she went to be with her Lord and Savior were her sons, David and Lowell, and other family members. A native of Hammond, Marie received her bachelor of arts degree from Anderson University, Anderson, Ind., her master of science degree from Tulane University and pursued her doctoral studies at Indiana University before returning to Anderson University to join the science department faculty, where she taught for about 40 years. Students, faculty, family and friends were touched by her generosity, hospitality, warmth and deep Christian faith. She returned to Louisiana in 1989 with her husband, Gradie LaNoyette, who preceded her in death shortly thereafter. A faithful wife, mother, teacher and friend, she devoted her life to the joy and welfare of others for the glory of God. Visiting at Greenoaks Funeral Home chapel, 9595 Florida Blvd., from 10 a.m. until religious service at noon Thursday, Dec. 23, conducted by Pastor Kenny Cutrer.
