She was born Jan. 27, 1930, in Ponchatoula, the daughter of Edwin and Beatrice Fannaly Tucker. Mrs. McCarthy was a retired florist, collector and historian, a lifetime member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and member of St. Joseph Rosary Altar Society and Community Garden Club. Surviving are her two daughters and sons-in-law, Cindy and Chip Fletcher, of Hammond, and Judy and Randy Bergeron, of Walker; three sons and daughters-in-law, Tim and Terri Heitman, of Baton Rouge, Randy and Kathryn Heitman, of Newport News, Va., and Danny and Catherine Heitman, of Baton Rouge; brother and sister-in-law, Edwin "Buddy" and Rosie Tucker; sister-in-law, Eunice Cotton; 14 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by her parents; first husband, William B. Heitman; second husband, Joseph McCarthy; son, Gerry Heitman; and an infant daughter. Friends will be received at Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home, Ponchatoula, on Friday, May 2, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Visiting at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Ponchatoula, on Saturday from 8:30 a.m. until Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m., with the Rev. He was a native of New Orleans and a resident of Ponchatoula for 18 years. Mr. McCarthy was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and a member of the American Legion Post 47. He also was prominent in the baseball circles in New Orleans and was in the New Orleans Diamond Club Hall of Fame. Surviving are his wife, Gloria Tucker Heitman McCarthy; three stepsons, Tim, Danny and Randy Heitman; two stepdaughters, Cindy H. Fletcher and Judy H. Bergeron; 14 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly. He was preceded in death by his father, Joseph McCarthy; stepfather and mother, Timothy and Stella Jones O'Brien; first wife, Catherine Alberts McCarthy; stepson, Gerry Heitman; two infant sons; four sisters, Pauline Caron, Frances Mustacchia, Margaret Weidie and Loretta Marquez; and a brother, Michael O'Brien.
