He was 73. Ralph worked for the Louisiana Driver's License Division for the Department of Public Safety in Hammond and retired from the Hammond Developmental Center. He served in the U.S. Army and participated in the Korean conflict. He is survived by his devoted wife, Elaine Sykes McCullen; and son and daughter- in-law, Randy and Janice McCullen, of Holden. He was blessed with three grandchildren, Kimberly McCullen, Jeremy McCullen and Justin McCullen, all of Holden. He is also survived by a sister, Vera Smiley, of Livingston; sisters-in-law, Helen Prokop Ray and husband Claude Sr., Norma Stewart and husband Elton Joe, Lois Sykes and Debbie Sykes; and brother-in-law, Tommy Ray Sykes. Ralph leaves behind a very special niece, Tonya Nicole Sykes, along with a host of other nieces, nephews and friends. Ralph was preceded in death by his parents, James Thomas McCullen and Betty Herring McCullen, sister, Velma Mansour; and brother, Tunney McCullen. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the funeral service at First Pentecostal Church of Denham Springs on Thursday, Dec. 27, at 1 p.m. Visitation at the church on Wednesday from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. and Thursday from 9 a.m. until service. The Rev. W.R. Johnson Sr. will conduct the religious service, assisted by the Rev. Paul Dickson and the Rev. Herman Simeon Jr. Interment in Bethlehem Baptist Church Cemetery, Albany. Pallbearers will be Justin McCullen, Randy McCullen, Jeremy McCullen, Claude Ray, Raymond Blount and Douglas McCullen. Honorary pallbearers are Tommy R. Sykes and Leroy Borders. McCullen, age 76, died Saturday, Feb. 14, 2004, at his home in Louisiana. He was born Jan. 2, 1928, in Frost, and grew up in Holden. He was a member of Woodland Park Baptist Church, Hammond. He was a U.S. Army veteran and a retired state employee. He was preceded in death by his parents, Betty Herring McCullen and Jim McCullen; and a sister; Velma Manseur. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Ada Hoyt McCullen; a daughter and son-in-law, Loretta and Bryan Hofsaess of Albany; a son, Ralph "Jimmy" McCullen of Hammond; a son and daughter-in-law, Douglas and Cindy McCullen of Cut and Shoot, Texas; a sister, Vera Smiley of Livingston; a brother and sister-in-law, Ralph and Elaine McCullen of Holden; along with numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Memorial service will be held at Woodland Park Baptist Church in Hammond at 11 a.m. Tuesday, officiated by the Rev. Leon Dunn, pastor.
