Elizabeth "Lizzie" Spears McDaniel, 90 years old and a resident of Osyka, Miss., died Friday, Sept. 22, 2006, at her home. She was born Feb. 13, 1916, in Osyka, the daughter of Howell and Lula Sharkey Spears. Mrs. McDaniel was affectionately known by those who loved her as "Skeet" or as her grandchildren deemed her, "Mama Skeet." She was small in stature but enormous in character and faith in her Lord. She was a lifetime member of Line Creek Baptist Church in Kentwood. She served in numerous positions for her church during the years, but received some of her greatest happiness singing in the choir. She loved to talk as much as she loved to sing. So helping in her daughter's beauty shop for years gave her great joy each week visiting with the ladies. Mrs. McDaniel had a reputation as a wonderful cook, but her homemade buttermilk biscuits were famous. Her kitchen was a gathering place for many and where guests were always treated to coffee, something good to eat and good-hearted conversation. All who knew her and her husband, Ivy McDaniel Sr., knew of their great love, admiration and respect for each other. Despite missing her deeply, her family now may find some peace that they are now reunited. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 49ä years, Ivy McDaniel Sr.; a daughter-in-law, Carolyn McDaniel; two granddaughters, Abby Leigh McDaniel and Elizabeth Carol Spears; five brothers, Briley Spears, Joe Spears, W.E. He was a graduate of LSU, class of 1925, and a member of the First Baptist Church and Fairfields Lodge No. 425, F&AM in Baton Rouge. Religious services were held Monday from Rebenhorse Funeral Home, conducted by Rev. L. Mark Roberts. Burial was in Roselawn Cemetery with Masonic graveside services.
