She was a cook at Belle Maison for 22 years. She is a member of the women's auxiliary, prayer warrior band and mother of her church. Visitation will be at Redemption Christian Church Friday from 5 until the funeral at 7 p.m. Bishop Curtis Bellazar will officiate. Dismissal will be Saturday at 10 a.m. followed by burial at Holly Gardens Cemetery, Hammond. Survivors include six daughters, Julia Palmer of Hammond, Audrey Kirk of Toledo, Ohio, Christine McFarland of Baton Rouge and Barbara Oguinye of Baton Rouge; two sons, Johnnie and Emmitt McGowan and Terrance McGowan, a grandson who she raised, both of Hammond; one brother, Willie Douglas of Detroit, Michigan; and 57 grandchildren and numerous great-great- grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Mariah Douglas; husband, Lawrence McGowan; three daughters, Emma McGowan, Ledell Branch and Dorothy Jones; two sons, James and Lawrence McGowan; two sisters, Leola Ross and Johnnie Mae Douglas; one brother, Isaiah Douglas; and seven grandchildren.
