Mr. Erlo Robert McLaurin Jr., 79, a resident of Ponchatoula and native of Wadesboro, LA, died Sunday, May 29, 2011, in North Oaks Medical Center. He was born on Wednesday, May 25, 1932, in Mobile, AL. Mr. McLaurin was a US Navy Veteran. He worked for the US Department of Agriculture prior to becoming a Lineman for L. P. & L. where he was employed for 34 years. He was a Life Member with the Ponchatoula Volunteer Fire Department with 53 years of service, having served 23 years as the Fire Chief. He was a member of the Louisiana State FiremenŐs Association, retiring as Treasurer after 40 years. Mr. McLaurin was named Louisiana Fireman of the Year in 2010 and was a Past President of the Louisiana State Fire ChiefŐs Association. He also served under 5 governors on the Louisiana FiremanŐs Supplemental Pay Board. He will be sadly missed by his family, friends and associates across the state. Surviving are his wife of 53 years, Enola Stilley McLaurin, daughter & son-in-law, Stacey McLaurin and Eddie Slay, son & daughter-in- law, Erlo David ŇTigerÓ and Arva N. McLaurin, grandchildren, Laurin Davis and her husband, Brandon Thompson, Beau McLaurin Davis, Quinn Cameron Davis, Myranda Christine McLaurin, and Candis Lea McLaurin, brother and sister-in- law, David Keith and Linda Triche, sister, Lorraine Biehl, and sister and brother-in-law, Loretta and Bob Bacham. He is preceded in death by his father, Erlo O. McLaurin; mother and step-father, Helen McCahill McLaurin and Dave Triche. Friends will be received on Wednesday, June 1, 2011 from 5:00 pm until 9:00 pm and on Thursday, June 2, 2011, from 8:00 am until 10:00 am at Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home in Ponchatoula. Services will be held in the funeral home chapel on Thursday, June 1, 2011, at 10:00 am. Interment will follow in the Ponchatoula Cemetery. Burial was as Ponchatoula Cemetery. Mr. McLaurin died Monday, May 20, at Seventh Ward General Hospital. He was a retired millwright.
