She introduced Montessori education to Ponchatoula as founder, owner, and directress of Magnolia Montessori School for 30 years, and she was co-publisher of The Ponchatoula Times newspaper. And two time president of the Gardenettes of Ponchatoula, she was also a member of the Krewe of Erin, the Ponchatoula Poetry Society, the Louisiana Rhymers, and was an art student of Kim Howes at The Art Station in Ponchatoula.Terry Ann McMahon was born in Detroit, Michigan on April 8, 1947, the daughter of Covington native Allen Frederick and Frances Adelaide Bueker Frederick of Detroit. She was a graduate of Our Lady Star of the Sea in Grosse Pointe, Michigan; a 1969 graduate (B.A.) of St. Xavier College in Chicago, Illinois, and completed post-graduate work in Montessori education in 1977 at the St. Nicholas Academy in London, England and at Springhill College, Mobile, Alabama. She was a senior screener in learning disabilities, certified by the Irlen Institute. She is survived by her husband, Bryan T. McMahon; a son, Brendan Byard McMahon (Landis), and three daughters, Anna McMahon Nagrath (Lyle Breaux), Bliss McMahon (Mike Strupp), and Deirdre Margaret Sanchez (Mariano); two brothers, Thom (Valerie) Frederick of Virginia Beach, Va., and Dr. Tim (Gladys) Frederick of St. Paul, and; two sisters, Mrs. Beth Austin of Colorado, and Mrs. Mary Fourmeaux of Covington; and three grandchildren, Anna Maria Sanchez, Lucas Martin Sanchez, and Felicity McMahon. Preceding her in death were her parents, and her brothers-in-law, Terrence Gerard McMahon and Steve Fourmeaux. Friends will be received Friday, January 1, 2010, at the Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home in Ponchatoula, from 5:00p.m. until 8:00p.m. and on Saturday January 2, 2009 at St. Albert Catholic Chapel on the SLU campus from 9:00a.m.until the 11:00a.m funeral mass with Fr. Randy M. Cuevas, S.T.L. officiating. Interment will follow in the Ponchatoula Cemetery, Ponchatoula,Louisiana 70454.
