Her extraordinary wit, strength, zest for life, camaraderie and the ability to brighten a room by her presence will be remembered with admiration and love. She was 62, a bookkeeper and held an associate degree in nursing. Memorial services were private. Kay is survived by her two daughters, Sara Elizabeth Rhea of Lafayette and Vera Rebecca Rhea and her husband, Neal Rohan Boyd of Hammond; grandchild, Cohan McCagé Cooper Rhea Stevens of Lafayette; sister, Vera Gail Hawk; and four brothers, Alvah Eugene, the Rev. Ramsey Doyle, Milton Wayne and Raiford Ronald Gilchrist. Kay was preceded in death by her parents, Tilley Lorene Phelps Gilchrist, Ralph Steadman Gilchrist; and four siblings, Alma Delores Setton, Ralph Louis, Jerri Lynn and Lorene Gilchrist. The family wishes to express their gratitude to all of Kay's friends who gave her comfort during her last days. She went forth surrounded by the praises of little children she loved - dearly on earth and now infinitely in spirit. May beautiful memories bring comfort to those who mourn her passing.
