She fought each day of her life with Cardiofaciocutaneous Syndrome, and all the problems that came with it. She was 10, a resident of Walker and a native of Greensburg. She was born Jan. 6, 1999, to Chris and Reneé Wells Melvin. Visiting at Wesley Chapel began on Friday, March 13, at 4 p.m. and continues until service at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 14, conducted by the Rev. La'Maryalis Cotton and the Rev. Chris Roberts. Burial into Harley's Rest Haven, Darlington. Survived by her parents, Chris and Reneé Wells Melvin, of Walker; two brothers, Justin and Brandon Melvin, both of Walker; maternal grandparents, Johnny "HoBo" and Jackie Wells, of Greensburg, paternal grandparents, Jerry and Doris Avants, of Walker, and Terri Dillemuth, of Greensburg; maternal great-grandparents, Wilfred and Susie Wells, of Greensburg; seven uncles and six aunts, John and Kellie Wells, of Bernice, Kris and Katie Wells, and Michael and Shannon Wells, all of Ponchatoula, Ben Pittman, of Greensburg, Jerry Avants II, Joe and Danielle Strickland and Ashley and Danny, all of Walker, and Margie Carpenter, of Texas; and 19 cousins, Caleb, Christyan, John Kaycee, Madilynn Grace, Jalyn, Wyatt, Jessica, Cameron, Kaitlyn, Kelsey, Lainey, Layton, Kollin, Colton, Dani-lynn, Ethan, Trey, Shiane and Sierra. She was preceded in death by her maternal great-grandfather and great-grandmother, Horace and Lucille Roberie; and her paternal great-grandfather and great-grandmother, Richard and Allie Mae McLin. Pallbearers will be John Wells III, Kris Wells, Michael Wells, Jerry Avants II, Joe Strickland and Lil' David Kersey. Honorary pallbearers are Ben Pittman, Johnny Wells, Justin and Brandon Melvin, Caleb, Christyan, and John Kaycee Wells and Lil' Steven Courtney. We would like to thank Highland Hospice who gave us so much love and cared for us during this very hard time. Harley was a very special angel given to us for a short time. She touched so many lives, and brought out the good in so many people. She was my heart and soul, and my very best friend. Life will not be the same without my little girl. Amite - Odey Byron Melvin Sr., 61, died Wednesday, Oct. 29, 2003, at his home. He was a native of Killian and twice retired. He was a steam fitter out of Union Local 60 in New Orleans and a correctional officer for the Hammond Police Department. He is survived by his mother, Ione Wild Hoey of Killian; his wife, Mary Gaeta Melvin of Amite; one daughter, Kristie Blades of Amite; four sons, Odey Byron "Peanut" Melvin Jr. of Killian, Ronnie Melvin and Wayland Wall Jr., both of Amite, and Sammy Hutchinson of Tickfaw; and eight grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father, Odey J. Melvin; and one son, Douglas L. Melvin. Visitation will be Friday at Killian Baptist Church from 9 a.m. until the funeral at 11, followed by burial will in the church cemetery.
