She was a member of First Apostolic Tabernacle Church, Ponchatoula. She is survived by one brother, George D. Davis Sr. of Independence; one stepdaughter, Mari Lou Sullivan of Hammond; one grand- daughter, two step-grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Mercier; one son, Gary Blount; one daughter, Susan Pyron; two brothers, Archie Davis and J.W. Davis; and one sister, Elsie Rogers. Visitation will be Tuesday at First Apostolic Tabernacle Church, Ponchatoula, from 6 to 9 p.m. and Wednesday from 8:30 a.m. until the funeral at 10. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery, Hammond. Geisler Funeral Home, Hammond, is in charge. *************************************************************************** Obituary published in The Advocate (Baton Rouge): 2/6/2005 MERCIER, EDITH EVE DUPLESSIS LIPPS Edith, or better known to some as Maw Maw E, The Hat Lady and The Bread Lady, was born to Edna Henderson Duplessis and Alexander Duplessis on Jan. 10, 1913, in Duplessis. She spent 92 glorious years loving God, family, country and bingo. To make life more enjoyable for her children she worked several jobs, including managing the lunch room at St. Joseph School, a restaurant owner, children's nursery worker at French Corner Baptist Church and had a fresh baked homemade bread, rolls and cake booth at the Ponchatoula Country Market. She will be sadly missed by her daughter, Patricia Lipps Magee of Albuquerque, N.M.; her son and daughter-in-law, Frank and Beverly Lipps; her grandchildren, Steve and Ron Magee, Monique Thornton, Paige Brown, Josh Lipps and their spouses; and 10 great-grand- children. She is survived by her sisters, Flavia Morse, Zilda Ernest and Mrs. Buddy (Henrietta) Joiner of Ponchatoula; and brother, Lawrence Duplessis of Portland, Ore. Preceded in death by her mother and father; five brothers, Alton, Alter, Alfaro, Troy and Wickliff Duplessis; first husband, Frank Lipps; second husband, Charles Mercier; and son-in-law, Charles Magee. She was a devout Catholic, member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Ponchatoula, a very proud member of the Ladies Altar Society and a volunteer at Belle Maison Nursing Home for 12 years. Special thanks to her loving and caring caregivers, Beverly Lipps and Cecile Lea, St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Ladies Altar Society, Dr. Michael Kozel, the Rev. Charles Bignar, Belle Maison Nursing Home, the fourth floor nursing staff at North Oaks Medical Center and Glen Fendalson. Pallbearers will be Josh Lipps, Logan Davis, Gary Brown, Steven Magee, Ron Magee and Todd Thornton. Friends and family are invited to attend the viewing at Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home, Ponchatoula, from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. Monday, Feb. 7. The holy Rosary will be recited by the Ladies Altar Society at 7 p.m. Monday. Viewing will continue at the funeral home from 8 a.m. until a religious service at 9:45 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 8. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Ponchatoula, at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday.
