She was 62 and a native of Ponchatoula. Visiting at Seale Funeral Home, Denham Springs, on Wednesday, Aug. 31, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. and on Thursday, Sept. 1, from noon until religious service at 3 p.m. Interment in Mount Zion Baptist Church Cemetery, Galvez. She is survived by her daughters, Carrie Cook, Irene Lancaster and Sandy Colona; sons, Mark and James Kropog and Jason Cook; sisters, Shirley Parker Hite and Catherine Parker; brothers, Billy, Lee, Ozmay, Leon and Mervin Parker; eight grand- children and two great-grandchildren. Born in Luling, she was a native of New Sarpy, and a former resident of Hammond. She last resided at Twin Oaks Nursing Home in LaPlace. She established the New Sarpy Women's Civic Club of New Sarpy in 1957. She is survived by her brother, Henry "Buster" A. Smith II; two children, Michael G. Messer and Mark S. Messer Sr.; one daughter-in-law, Susan D. Messer; seven grandchildren, Tina D. Butler, Daphne D. Reid, Dana D. Carter, Shawn M. Jones, Shay M. Posey, Melissa A. Messer and Mark S. Messer II; and 13 great-grandchildren. Her parents, Mr. Henry A. Smith Sr. and Mrs. Flossie Chaisson Smith; her husband, Mr. Charles E. Messer II; a brother, Ronald B. Smith; sisters-in-law, Donyce J. Smith and Christine F. Smith; daughter, Ms. Charlotte M. Duvall; one great-grandchild, Justin T. Posey, all preceded her in death.
