PARENT Kathryn J. Parent Metz, a long-time resident of Springfield, died Friday, March 4, 2011, at age 87. A native of Rolling Fork, Miss., she was raised in Natalbany. She was born Aug. 18, 1923, to Harry William Parent and Belle Parker Parent, who preceded her in death. Being a dedicated military wife, a loving nurturing mother and homemaker in the early years of her marriage, she was an unfaltering example of patience and stamina and a role model to all who knew her. A member of St. Thomas Catholic Church, she served as a Eucharistic minister, catechism teacher and member of the choir. She was elected Springfield Alderman in 1969 and worked for many years as a Realtor in the Florida Parishes after her children were grown. She was the devoted wife of the late Lt. Col. Eugene James Metz, U.S. Air Force, retired. She was also preceded in death by sons, Donald Blair, Peter Richard and Louis "Tony" Anthony; and sister, Micky Storey. Survivors include five sons, Eugene James Metz Jr. and wife Theresa Sziber, of Houston, Thomas David Metz and C. Michael Metz, both of Springfield, Conrad Joseph Metz and wife Jeannie Warren, of Hammond and Harry Albert "Rusty" Metz and wife Charlotte Fayard, of Cullowhee, N.C.; daughters, Robin Metz Kevlin and husband John, of Cullowhee, and Chris Tina Metz Bankston and husband Roy, of Winston- Salem, N.C.; nine grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; brothers, Harry, Jodie, Dickie, Paul, Bobby and Tom Parent; sisters, June Overmier, Scene Bordelon and Charlotte Bowlin; numerous nieces and nephews and last but not least, loyal companions, Phydeaux and Brownie. Visitation at Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home in Hammond on Sunday, March 6, from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. Visitation at St. Thomas Catholic Church in Springfield on Monday March 7, from 9 a.m. until Mass begins at 11 a.m. Interment in St. Margaret Catholic Cemetery in Albany. He was a native of New Orleans, a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, a member of the Veteran of Foreign Wars of Hammond and an employee of Car Quest.
