She was born on December 15, 1919, in Tylertown, Mississippi, and was the daughter of the late Van F. and Jessie Teat Miller. Shortly after her graduation from Tylertown High School, the family moved to Hammond. Miss Miller worked as a librarian at Southeastern Louisiana University until her retirement in 1977 at which time she worked for several years for Herring Insurance Company in Hammond. Miss Miller was a member of First United Methodist Church in Hammond for many years and served her church in many capacities. She was also a member of Phi Kappa Phi, AAUW, Round Table, and the Investment Club. She loved dogs, and they loved her. Miss Miller was an only child who never married or had children of her own; however, she was considered an "aunt" or "second mother" to Anne Alford Flippin, Suzie Alford Loomis, John "Jack" Faller, and Jill Faller Williams and their children. She will be sadly missed by these "family" members as well as her long-time care-giver and friend Jean Morel and the many other people who have helped Jean care for her so lovingly for so many years. She will also be missed by her Bo, her poodle. With tearful eyes we watched you and saw you pass away and though we love you dearly we could not make you stay. A golden heart stopped beating, a precious soul at rest. God broke our hearts to prove to us he only takes the best. A loving husband, father and grandfather who will be greatly missed by all who knew him, he went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, May 4, 2010. He was 83, a native of Senatobia, Miss., and lived as a youth in Hammond. He served during World War II aboard a Navy attack transport in the Philippine Islands and Okinawa areas of the Pacific Theatre. When the war ended, he returned to college at Southeastern Louisiana University, Hammond, where he earned his master's degree in education. He then taught chemistry for several years in Tokyo, Mandeville, and finally retired after teaching at Broadmoor High, Baton Rouge. He also worked as a plant chemist at Dow Chemical in Louisiana, B.F. Goodrich in Kentucky and Olin Mathieson in Indiana. Visitation at Resthaven Funeral Home on Thursday, May 6, was from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Visiting resumes at the funeral home Friday from 9 a.m. until religious service at 11 a.m. Interment in Resthaven Gardens of Memory. Survived by his wife of 49 years, Bobbie Ann; three sons, Mark Caffarel and wife Janet, Ken Miller and wife Laurie, and David Miller and wife Michelle; and five grandchildren, Lauren, Cameron, Meritt, Mallory and Margaret.
