She was born Dec. 7, 1914, in Peoria, Miss. She was a former longtime resident of Denham Springs and Osyka, Miss. She was the daughter of Charles and Bessie Newman Thomas of Osyka. She was a homemaker and a member of Line Creek Baptist Church. The Lord made a few angels to take care of sick people and Alyene had the best angels, Willette May and Sheila Shropshire, who lovingly took great care of her. A special thanks from the family. She was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Ray M. "Pat" Dick, who died in October 1938 in Kentwood; second husband, Winfred B. "Bennie" Mixon Jr., who died in October 1973 in Osyka; a grandson, Gary L. Sanders, who was of Kentwood; two sons-in-law, Charles L. "Buzz" Sanders, who was of Kentwood, and Dr. James R. Pearce, who was of Tyler, Texas; a daughter-in-law, Linda Mixon, who was of Portland, Ore.; three sisters, Roddie T. Costas, who was of Baton Rouge, Margarette T. Butts and Christine T. Mixon, who were of Osyka; and three brothers, Charles "Chick" Thomas, who was of Osyka, John Lewis Thomas, who was of Denham Springs, and Albert Thomas, who was of Sugarland, Texas. She is survived by two daughters, Peggy D. Pearce of Rowlett, Texas, and Patsy D. Sanders of Kentwood; two sons and daughters-in-law, Rody Joe and Betty Dick of Denham Springs, and Charles B. and Billie Mixon of Gresham, Ore.; four grandchildren, Charles L. "Chuck" Sanders of Kentwood, Michael Pearce and Amy Mabry, both of Rowlett, and Sean Croft of Battle Ground, Wash.; four great-grandchildren, Caitlyn and Kylie Mabry, both of Rowlett, and Jerrica and Devin Croft, both of Battle Ground; a sister, Kathleen T. He was born April 30, 1914, in Kentwood, as one of nine children to Boliver Monroe and Effie Dean Gill Mixon. He is survived by a brother, Louie C. Mixon, Baton Rouge; sister, Dorothy Mixon Borne, Baton Rouge; as well as nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his wife, Maude B. Hughes Mixon; parents; sisters, Jewel Hughes and Nina Tate; and brothers, Homer, Wesley, Rex and Reggie. He graduated from Amite High School and served his country as a sergeant in the Army, where he took part in the D-Day invasion of Normandy during World War II. He later worked for Hunt Wesson for more than 30 years in sales. Basil and wife Maude were avid LSU fans, loved to travel and participated in the Senior Special Olympics and were also active in the Broadmoor Baptist Church. Born in Baton Rouge on Sept. 26, 1949, he died at his home in Gresham, Ore., at 12:15 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 14, 2010, after a long battle with cancer. A native of Denham Springs, he had a military funeral and was buried in Willamette National Cemetery in Portland, Ore., with full military honors. Church services were held at Covenant Presbyterian Church in Gresham where he had been a member. He was a retired salesman. He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Billie Mixon, of Gresham; a son and daughter-in-law, Sean and Darlene Croft, of Battleground, Wash.; two grandchildren, Jerrica and Devin Croft, both of Battleground; two sisters, Peggy D. Pearce, of Rowlett, Texas, and Patsy D. Charles loved cooking. He and a friend of his were filming a cooking show for television at the time of his illness. Charles was a 1967 graduate of Denham Springs High School. In the summer of 1967, he moved to Osyka with his parents. He went to Southeastern Louisiana University upon graduation. He went into the U.S. Air Force where he proudly served his country. After leaving the Air Force, he moved to Portland where he met the loves of his life, Billie Croft and her young son, Sean Croft. Charles told me Sean was the best son any man could ask for. Charles was the best brother in the world and we were glad he was our little brother. Charles is also survived by special friends, I.W. and Peggy Simmons, and Will Cavanaugh, all of Kentwood; three best friends from childhood to high school known as The Four Pine St. Car Terrors. Prior to his career with Exxon he worked with Louisiana Creamery and the Louisiana State Police. He served his country in the Army in the South Pacific during World War II. He worked for many years at the LSU football games and was an avid fan. He and his wife traveled extensively throughout the country into their 80s. Louie loved gardening and had a firewood business for many years. He is survived by a daughter, Sharon DeLaune and husband Delmas, of Gonzales; and son, Gill Mixon and wife Becky, of Baton Rouge. He is also survived by a sister, Dorthy Borne, of Baton Rouge; three granddaughters, Robin and Tonia Delaune, and Sonia Cross and husband Thomas; and great-grandchildren, Destinee, Hannah, Abigail and Cassie. He was preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Mildred Strickland Mixon. Along with his parents, he was also preceded in death by five brothers, Homer, Wesley, Rex, Reggie and Basil; and two sisters, Jewel Hughes and Nina Tate. Recently, she and her husband had returned to live in Baton Rouge to be near family. Mildred loved working in her yard and especially loved traveling out West. She was always very positive and loving towards all she met and will be dearly missed by family and friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Neil Strickland, who was of Baton Rouge; and a sister, Roberta "Bert" Sevier, who was of Lake Charles.
