Dominic S. Monistere, born in Hammond, LA on 8/22/22, died peacefully at his home in Houston, TX on 2/27/08. 'Dom' was the owner of Monistere's Radio & Refrigeration, and enjoyed his retirement years traveling the world with his family and friends. As a self-taught pianist and exceptional singer, he played and sang at home, and served as an outstanding member of the St. Charles Boremeo choir in St. Rose, La. Dom is a past president of the Freret St. Businessmen's Association, a member of the Krewe of Freret, and Saints fans knew him as president of Who Dat?, Inc. He participated in weekend retreats with the Men of Manresa, and often volunteered at Kenner Regional Hospital. He became an avid student of genealogy, and authored his findings in a family keepsake titled "More Than I Expected". He loved entertaining his children and grandchildren with stories of his childhood - Dom's favorite pastime was sharing his memories. Dom is survived by his beloved wife of 66 years, Lucy Nicolosi Monistere, plus four children, Josie, Sal, Mary Lu, and Steve. There is one surviving sibling, Katy Monistere Zaffuto, plus 11 grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren. Mary means empathetic, just like the Blessed Mother. Agnes means martyr. Ninfa means baby Jesus and Monistere means holy place. She was 84, a homemaker and a devoted wife, who worked alongside her husband in their service station business in Baton Rouge for 25 years. She loved God and knew Jesus. She was a very prayerful person and was an example of Jesus to all. She loved to cook Italian food and loved to share it with all. You never went to her home without sharing a meal. She will be missed by all her family and friends. She is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Nina Huffstetler and Carol and Joe Breen; two sons, Vincent Monistere Jr. and Sammy Monistere; a sister, Virginia Lalumia; grandchildren, Scott and Nicole Huffstetler and Darla and Joey Breen; and numerous other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Vincent Monistere Sr.; father and mother, Alessandro Ninfa and Annie Spitale Ninfa Lalumia; and sisters, Lena Chavers and Josie Olivia.
