He departed this life on Sunday, Jan. 18, 2004, joining his beloved wife Margaret Simolke Monk, who preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his parents, Merrill L. and Ida Merritt Monk; two brothers, Coy and Will C. Monk; a grandson, Jeffrey Corkern; and a son-in- law, Walter Corkern. He is survived by a daughter, Linda Monk Corkern; two grandchildren, Michele Corkern and Stephen Corkern; and four great-grand- children, Jamie, Jordan, Cole and Kaitlyn Corkern. She was born Sept. 22, 1914, to Robert Williams and Lydia Allen Williams. She was a charter member of Feliciana Baptist Church, a member of the local quilting club and the Order of the Eastern Star. Visitation at Feliciana Baptist Church in Clinton on Tuesday, March 1, from 10 a.m. until memorial service at 1 p.m., conducted by the Rev. Kerry Ash and the Rev. Tony Hand. Burial in the Ash Family Cemetery. Pallbearers will be grandsons. Survivors include two sons, Robert Ash and wife Ruth, of Denham Springs, and Mike Ash, of Memphis, Tenn.; a daughter, Frances Durham and husband John, of Clinton; a sister, Allie Marie Dillon, of Kentwood; two sisters-in-law, Violet Anderson and Ruby Ricks, both of Baton Rouge; daughter-in-law, Peggy F. Ash, of Greensburg; 10 grandchildren, numerous great- and great-great-grandchildren, and two step-daughters, Barbara Penny and Aleen Clark. Our mother has loved her family and her Lord Jesus Christ as long as we can remember. She served Him by serving others. Her ministry was to prepare food for the sick or anyone she knew who had a need. She was a kind, gentle lady. We already miss her but look forward to being with her in Heaven.
