"A.W." "Pa" "DUBBY" "UNCLE DUB" On Thursday, Dec. 28, 2006, at 91 years of age, A.W. Montegudo Jr. left this earth to spend eternity in heaven with our Lord. He was a lifelong resident of Zachary. He held the distinction of being Zachary's first full-time police officer. He patrolled the streets and the northern end of the parish from 1956 until his retirement in 1979. He was also a school bus driver for the Zachary area schools from 1956 to 1975. Among his hobbies were rodeoing in his early years, training bloodhounds to search for lost children and criminals, running deer dogs, listening to his fox dogs run and raising a garden to share his produce with family and friends. He is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Ann Montegudo and Barry Corkern, and Monty Montegudo and Larry Perkins, all of Zachary; five grandchildren, Stacy Kalencki Alonzo and husband Paul, William L. "Dub" Kalencki, Jud Corkern and wife Kris Guidry, all of Zachary, Dustin Perkins and wife Susan Rains of Watson and Leann Perkins of Hammond; six great-grandchildren, Jordan Kalencki, Lexie, Taylee and Zeb Corkern, and Garrett and Cassady Perkins; a sister, Mary Elizabeth Montegudo "Issie" Denham of Baton Rouge; numerous nieces and nephews; and two close family friends, Michele Flores and Claudette Leake. He is also survived by and will be greatly missed by his rat terrier, Jack. He was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Emilee Wicker Montegudo; parents, Adolphus Sr. and Mary Emmie Black Montegudo; two brothers, John S. and Jesse V. Montegudo; three half- brothers, Joe, Harney and Leo Montegudo; and two half-sisters, Marie Montegudo Babin and Juanita Montegudo Wallis. Visitation was at Charlet Funeral Home in Zachary on Friday, Dec. 29, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Visitation will continue on Saturday from 10 a.m. until service at noon, conducted by Brother Bob Lawton and Brother Wayne Barnes. Pallbearers will be Dub Kalencki, Jud Corkern, Dustin Perkins, Paul Alonzo, W.A. Corkern and Page McClure. Honorary pallbearers are Barry Corkern and Larry Perkins.
