Known affectionately by her many friends as ³Bubbles,² a name bestowed by her first grandchild, she was a leader and active member of numerous civic, social and church organizations including St. Margaretıs Guild, the Altar Guild of Grace Episcopal Church, Les Mesdames, Beta Sigma Phi, and BTPA. Born in London, England on February 23, 1922, she came to the United States in 1945 after marrying Captain Caesar Boyd (C.B.) Moody during World War II. After living for a year in Atlanta, she and her husband moved to Chapel Hill, North Carolina where he earned a Ph.D. in Psychology from the University of North Carolina. The couple later moved to Natchitoches, Louisiana where he served for many years as the Chair of the Psychology Department at Northwestern State University, she became actively involved in community service, and together the two raised three children. In 1970, when Dr. Moody accepted a position as Chair of the Psychology Department at Southeastern, the family moved to Hammond. Many Hammond residents will remember Irene, or "Bubbles", for reliably delivering the Daily Star to them for many years after her youngest son tired of being a "paperboy" and she inherited his paper route. Preceded in death by her husband Caesar Boyd Moody, she is survived by her youngest brother Harry Fitzer of Baldock, England, daughter Gayle Moody Kirwan of Baton Rouge, sons Christopher Moody and Randolph Moody of Hammond, eight grandchildren and four great grandchildren. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends, but always remembered for her cheerful disposition, zest for life, and unselfish service to others. Friends are invited to attend a memorial service at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 10, 2007, at Grace Episcopal Church in Hammond, and visitation in the parish hall from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. immediately preceding the service. *************************************************************************** Obituary published in The Hammond Daily Star on: 1/24/2005 MOODY, JANA STURGILL Local attorney Jana Sturgill Moody, 41, died Sunday, Jan. 23, 2005, at North Oaks Medical Center, Hammond, of a massive heart attack.
