Hammond, LA -- On Saturday, March 13, 2010 God came for his daughter, Mattie Elzene Mullican, age 81. She was the widow of William Kermit Ready and James C. Mullican. She was the daughter of Wiley W. McDonald and Mazie Canoy, stepdaughter of Bernice McDonald Brantley, and the sister of Vernon D. McDonald. Born and raised in Simpson County, MS. Former resident of Jackson, MS for 33 years, residing in Hammond, LA for the past 4 years. Proud Mother of Maisie Himel (Raymond), Aubrey Ready (Joanie), J.B. Ready, Kathy Hammond (John), and Janet Vallotton (Ray), grandmother of 8 grand- children and great grandmother of 17. She was of kind spirit, loved her family deeply and touched the heart of many in a special way. She was ever faithful to the Lord. The family would like to express sincere appreciation to her pastor, Brother George Terrell and to Mother's church family at Hillside Baptist Church. Your love, prayers and devotion brought much comfort to her and to the family. Special thanks with heartfelt appreciation to the nurses and staff at Canon Hospice Hospital. Your kind, gentle care and loving attitudes meant so much and will always be remembered. Also, we have to say "Thank you to the boys in black and gold." She loved the Saints and we have special memories, even from her hospital bed. We will always hear her saying Who Dat! Relatives and friends are invited to attend visitation at: Wright & Ferguson 350 High St. Jackson, MS. On Friday March 19, 2010 at 9:00 am for immediate family and 10:00 am for family and friends. Funeral services will be held 12:30pm Friday in the chapel of Wright & Ferguson High Streetl. Interment will follow at Lakewood Cemetery.
