She was traveling with her dear friend, Austin Spurgeon, who also passed away. Visitation at Greenoaks Funeral Home, 9595 Florida Blvd., on Wednesday, Aug. 6, from 10 a.m. until service at noon, officiated by the Rev. Bert Baglely of Moody Memorial First United Methodist Church in Galveston. Burial at Greenoaks Memorial Park. Emily was born on Jan. 16, 1990, in Baton Rouge to George William Munson Jr. and Kerrie Ruth Roubique Munson. She was a 2008 graduate of Ball High School in Galveston and was scheduled to attend the Academy of Arts University in San Francisco in the fall. She loved the arts and fashion and had chosen a career path in the fashion industry. Emily had many friends. She was very involved in school and church activities. She was a member of Ball High School Student Council; enjoyed surfing, and her job at Ben and Jerry's. She cherished being able to visit and travel with her large extended family. Emily was preceded in death by her grandparents, George William Munson Sr. and Emily Black Munson and Kenneth and Ruth Roubique. Survivors include her mother and stepfather, Kerrie and Larry Highley, of Galveston; father and stepmother, Bill and Lou Munson, of Baton Rouge; sisters, Marie Guerin, of Houston, Adele Guerin, of Galveston, Laura Kirby and Linda Hudnall and husband Brian, all of Baton Rouge, and Michelle Trapen and husband Mark, of Hammond; brothers, Trey Munson and wife Tracy, of Richlandtown, Pa., Ryan Highley and wife Kendra, of Flower Mound, Texas, J. Chad Highley and Morgan Highley and wife Christina, all of Oklahoma City, John Lowman and wife Rhonda, of Brusly, Steve Lowman and wife Nancy, of League City, Texas, and Wesley Lowman and wife Angel, of Smithdale, Miss.; aunts, Ann Ball and husband Tom, of Metairie, Vicki Sing and husband Keith, of Baton Rouge, Rhonda Martinez and husband Joe, of Metairie, Laura Gleason and husband David, of Baton Rouge; and uncle, Don Munson and wife Joey, of Coppell, Texas; and stepgrandfather, George Pearce, of Baton Rouge; as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was 96 and a native of New Orleans. Visitation at Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home, Ponchatoula, from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. Tuesday with a 7 p.m. vigil service, and 8 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. Wednesday. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Joseph Catholic Church at 10 a.m. Wednesday, conducted by a Dominican priest. Interment in Ponchatoula Cemetery. A retired dentist and a resident of Baton Rouge, Dr. John Webster Munson died on Tuesday, Dec. 20, 2005. He was 74 and a U.S. Army veteran. Berggreen. Interment in Port Hudson National Cemetery. He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Ronald E. and Donna P. Knapp of Fluker; a daughter and son-in-law, Bevil S. Knapp and Ellis V. Lucia of Metairie; grandson, Trey Knapp; granddaughter, Rebecca and her husband, Stephen Perry, of Dallas; a sister, Barbara M. LeBlanc; brother-in-law, George M. Mathews of Denver; sister-in-law, Kinnie B. Mogg of Shreveport; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lucile Bettis Munson; parents, Henry Alden and Mabel Rogers Munson; three sisters, Mabel M. Reymond, Rose Mary M. Metcalfe and Laurence M. Mathews; and two brothers, Henry A. Munson Jr. and Fulton R. Munson. He was a graduate of Catholic High School, LSU and Loyola University School of Dentistry. He was a board member emeritus of Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center and a former board member of St. Joseph's Children's Home. She was one of the 1994 recipients of the Volunteer Activists Award. She was an active volunteer at Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center and was the recipient of the center's Anna B. Lipsey Award for 1987-1988. She was also an active volunteer with the LSU Rural Life Museum. The family wishes to express special thanks to Bonnie O. Lathan, who was Lucile's devoted and special caregiver for more than three years and to Patricia Bearden, who also gave three years to her care. In her final days, Bonnie was assisted by the following superb caregivers, Liz Brown, Verla Spriggs, Joyce Bates, Mertice Shropshire and Shandel Brown.
