Retired registrar of voters for Tangipahoa Parish and a resident of Hammond, he died at 2:45 a.m. Saturday, July 7, 2007, at North Oaks Medical Center, Hammond. He was 81 and a native of Independence. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. Visitation at Mater Dolorosa Catholic Church, Independence, on Monday, July 9, from 10 a.m. until Mass of Christian Burial at 1 p.m., with the Rev. Chris Romaine, celebrant, and Deacon Michael Agnello. Interment in Tangipahoa Cemetery, Tangipahoa. Survived by two sons, Richard Navarra and wife Lou, and Roger Navarra and wife Cynthia, all of Independence; three grandchildren, Charlotte Navarra, Dominick Navarra and Brittany Navarra; wife, Hazel Lato Navarra, Hammond; two brothers, Roy Navarra, Independence, and Philip Navarra, Baton Rouge; and four sisters, Angie Navarra, Hammond, Mary Navarra and Josephine Evola, both of New Orleans, and Joyce Dileo, Greenwell Springs. Preceded in death by his first wife, Margaret B. Navarra; daughter, Ramona Navarra; and sister, Sara Burrescia. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Mater Dolorosa School, P.O. She was 44 and a native of Amite. Visitation at Mater Dolorosa Catholic Church, Independence, 11 a.m. until religious services at 1 p.m. Wednesday, conducted by the Rev. Dean Martin. Interment in Tangipahoa Cemetery, Tangipahoa. She is survived by her father, Dominick A. Navarra Jr., Amite; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Richard and Lou Navarra, New Albany, Miss., and Roger A. and Cynthia Navarra, Independence; two nieces, Charlotte Navarra and Brittany Navarra; and a nephew, Dominick Navarra.
