He was born Jan. 19, 1927, in Thibodaux, son of Alvin Joseph Navarre Sr. and Julie Felicie Boudreaux Navarre. He died Monday, Nov. 14, 2011, in Baton Rouge. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Maybelle Mary Couvillon Navarre, of Baton Rouge; daughters, Suzanne Claire Navarre Delcambre and husband Robin Francis Delcambre, of Richardson, Texas, and Gerianne Mary Navarre Pearson and husband Mark Stephen Pearson, of Baton Rouge; daughter, Julie Anne Navarre Miller and husband Troy Carson Miller, of Prairieville; daughter, Mary Lucille Navarre Keiser and husband Shawn Jason Keiser, of Maylene, Ala.; son, Andrew Alvin Navarre and wife Ina Gremillion Navarre, of Baton Rouge; sisters, Theresa Marie Navarre Guidroz and husband Gene Guidroz, of Larose, Beverly Marie Navarre Curole and husband Harrison Curole, of Prairieville, and Jeane Marie Navarre Gaudet and husband Gilmer Gaudet, of Ponchatoula; brothers, Aurestile Mark Navarre and wife Cynthia Adams Navarre, and Philip Paul Navarre and wife Sybil Cheramie Navarre, all of Cut Off; and 15 grandchildren, Marcelle Navarre, Lynette Navarre, Jolie Delcambre, Robert Delcambre, Madeleine Delcambre, Michelle Pearson, William Pearson, Catherine Pearson, Amanda Pearson, Adam Miller, Aaron Miller, Joseph Miller, Joshua Miller, Elizabeth Keiser and Hannah Keiser. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Ruby Navarre Collins; and son, Richard Robert Navarre. He was a longtime resident of Golden Meadow, then Cut Off. A relatively new resident of Baton Rouge, he retired from the Lafourche Parish School Board with 39 years as a dedicated and caring teacher of countless students over the years with the last 27 years at South Lafourche Senior High School in Galliano. He was a Fourth Degree Knight of Columbus and a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church. He served in the U.S. Army European Theater in World War II and as an officer in Korea during the Korean War. He earned an undergraduate degree in education from LSU in 1951 and completed his masters' degree from LSU in 1954. He will be remembered for, among other things, his woodworking, especially his beautiful birdhouses, and his love of roses, opera and all things Oriental. Visitation at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 12424 Brogdon Lane, on Thursday, Nov. 17, beginning at 9 a.m. with the recitation of the rosary at 10 a.m. The funeral Mass will follow at 11 a.m. celebrated by the Rev. Brother Louis Couvillon, S.C., his brother-in-law. Thompson Funeral Home, Hammond, LA NAVARRE, LAWRENCE JOSEPH, SR. Age 72 and a longtime resident of Independence, Lawrence passed away on Monday, March 25, 2013 in Independence. He was a member and deacon of First Baptist Church in Independence. He leaves behind his wife Pearl Ann Navarre; daughters, Tammy May and husband Craig, Lisa Husser; son, Lawrence Navarre, Jr. and wife Penny, along with 9 grandchildren and 11 great- gandchildren. Lawrence is also survived by a special nephew, Ernie Navarre and special companion Michelle Pace, his sister Laura Prine and husband Jimmy, as well as, numerous nieces and nephews. Preceding Lawrence in death were his parents, Clement and Sedonia Navarre; siblings, Ernest, Clarence, Frank, Clement Jr., Clara and Eivia.
