A retired Delta Tank/Delta Southern salesman and a resident of Baton Rouge, he died Friday, Feb. 25, 2005, in Mandeville. He was 84, a U.S. Navy lieutenant veteran of World War II and a native of Shreveport. Visiting at Rabenhorst Funeral Home East, 11000 Florida Blvd., from 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 1, until religious service at 2 p.m., conducted by the Rev. Chris Andrews. Interment in Greenoaks Memorial Park. He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Sally Ann and Tom Schmidt, Covington; three sons and a daughter-in-law, John III and Cynthia Nesser, Houston, David Nesser, M.D., and partner Robert Shields, Dallas, and Claude Nesser, M.D., Hammond; and nine grandchildren, J.T. Nesser IV and spouse Ashley, Amanda Lynn Nesser, Katherine Hall Nesser, Joshua Michael Nesser, Jennie Clare Schmidt, Caroline David Schmidt, Emily Grace Schmidt, Abigail Lieven Schmidt and Madelyn Thomas Schmidt. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jennie Virginia Coxe Nesser; mother and father, Gertrude Rushing and John T. Nesser; and a sister, Mary Louise Thomas. John dearly loved his children, grandchildren and First United Methodist Church family. Pallbearers will be Brad Marshall, Wayne Coxe, James Coxe, Richard Campbell, Frank Creaghan, Thomas Creaghan, James Creaghan and Daryl Penny. Honorary pallbearers are Earl Coxe, Gordon Campbell, Tom Phillips, Richard Merritt, Howard Parker, Allen Lockwood, Ken Wilson, Walter Wright, Buck Speakman and John Trigg Wood. He was an LSU graduate, former LSU band member, golfer and an avid LSU football fan. He was a master Mason for 50 years with St. James Masonic lodge. Special thanks to his "Golden Girls" caregivers, Janice and Tina, and to the staffs of Windsor Senior Living in Mandeville and Hospice Association of St. Tammany Parish, especially Alden. ***************************************************************************
