He was 47 and a native of East Baton Rouge Parish. Visiting at Greenoaks Funeral Home, 9595 Florida Blvd., 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday and 8 a.m. until religious services at 10 a.m. Monday. Interment in Greenoaks Memorial Park. Survived by his wife, Lois T. Nevels, Ponchatoula; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Crystal and Robert Martin, Ponchatoula, Kim and David Deglandon and Meri Jo Nevels, all of Baton Rouge; a son, Dustin M. Nevels, Ponchatoula; two sisters, Nellie Brown, Zachary, and Dot White, Baton Rouge; and two grandchildren, Courtney Morgan Deglandon and Samantha Denise Martin. Preceded in death by his parents, Walter "Pete" and Betty Nevels; a sister, Barbara J. Nevels; and a brother, Victor Keith Nevels. Pallbearers will be Lucas Hutchinson, Todd Locke, Dave Deglandon, Robert Martin, Rodney Samson and David Vicknair. A retired employee of Carter Chambers and a lifelong resident of Central, he died Tuesday, April 19, 2005, at his home. He was 72, a native of Brookhaven, Miss., and a U.S. Army veteran. Visiting at Rabenhorst Funeral Home East, 11000 Florida Blvd., from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, April 22, and in the chapel from noon Saturday, April 23, until service at 2 p.m. Interment in Greenoaks Memorial Park. He is survived by two daughters, Beth Nevels Calloway, Hammond, and Anna Nevels McMahon, Baton Rouge; three sons, John Michael Nevels, Denham Springs, Ivan H. Nevels II, Baton Rouge, and Byron Nevels, Smithdale, Miss.; sister, Doris Brown, Mississippi; two sisters-in-law, Emma Jean Fraser and Virginia Worley; four brothers, W.E., Ralph, Robert and Howard Nevels, all of Mississippi; grandchildren, Christa Bird, Lara Crafton, Brandi Nevels, Erin Nevels, Jordan Nevels, Terry Lambert, Brittany McMahon and Quinn McMahon; and four great-grandchildren.
