She was a native of Robert. She is survived by her husband, James Newsham of Ponchatoula; two sons, James "Jimmy" Newsham III of Ponchatoula and Ronald "Ronnie" Newsham of Fort Worth, Texas; four sisters, Nell Sawyer and Faye Lawrence, both of Hammond, Ann Robertson of New Orleans and Dorothy Slade of Alexandria; three brothers, Don ad Ken Prevost, both of Hammond, and Raymond Prevost of Bedico; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Grace Wunch Prevost; seven brothers, Brit, Ernest, Mack, Floyd, Marvin, Clarence and Aubrey Prevost; two sisters, Bonnie Sherrwood and Genieve Robertson. The Rev. Bob Diech conducted the funeral today at Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home, Hammond. Burial was in Sand Hill Cemetery. *************************************************************************** Obituary published in The Hammond Daily Star: 3/19/2010 NEWSHAM, JAMES ALFRED James Alfred "Jim" Newsham, 96, of Ponchatoula, died Wednesday, March 17, 2010, in North Oaks Medical Center. He was born on Sunday, August 17, 1913, in New Orleans, Louisiana, son of the late James A. and Marie Valentine Lallemond Newsham. Surviving are 2 sons and daughters-in-law, James "Jimmy" and Vivian Currow Newsham and Ronald "Ronnie" and Donna Vaughn Newsham; sister, Laura Verbeek; grandchildren, Brad, Jeff, and Stacey Newsham and Shannon Brewer; and great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his wife, Gladys Inez Prevost Newsham; 4 brothers, Dan, Bill, Alfred, and Lionel Newsham, and 6 sisters, Alice Smith, Valentine Gibbs, Ellen Rainey, Lucy, Zu and Pat Newsham. Friends will be received Friday, March 19, 2010, at Harry McKneely & Son in Ponchatoula from 6 p.m. til 9 p.m., and after 8 a.m. on Saturday until 1 p.m. Services will be held in the Funeral Home Chapel Saturday, March 20, 2010, at 1 p.m., with Rev. Eric Hattaway officiating. Interment will follow in the Sand Hill Cemetery, Ponchatoula.
