She was 86 and a native of Kiln, Miss. She was a retired U.S. Army major, having served as a physical therapist. Visitation at McKneely Funeral Home, Amite, from 10 a.m. Tuesday until religious service at 2 p.m., conducted by the Rev. William Eubanks. Interment in Amite Cemetery, Amite. Survived by 12 nieces and nephews, W.M. Fortenberry, Dorothy Newton Futch, J. Robert Fortenberry, Larry Magruder, Marguerite Newton Dunnington, Betty Walker Perkins, J.H. Newton III, Anne Newton Ellzey, C.L. Newton, Jane Newton Eubanks, Norman H. Newton and Bert Newton; and numerous great-nieces, great-newphews, great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews. Preceded in death by her parents, J.H. and Agnes Rouss Newton; and seven brothers and sisters, Clarence Lester Newton, Sallie N. Fortenberry, Lydia N. Magruder, Melba N. Walker, J.H.
