He was a native of Hammond and a construction worker. He was a member of the Army National Guard. He is survived by his wife, Barbara Norton of Hammond; four daughters, Donna Norton, Shawntrelle Norton, Sheundria Norton and Demetria Norton, all of Hammond; six sisters, Alberta Whiting, Octavia Parker and Brenda Rice, all of San Antonio, Willette Carter of Fort Hood, Texas, Janette Primus of California and Clara Miller of Georgia; three brothers, Paul Norton of Lake Charles, Bruce Norton of Hammond and J. Hillard of McComb, Miss.; and six grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ella and Paul Norton; and two brothers, Clarence Norton and George Norton. Visitation will be Friday at Richardson Funeral Home, Hammond, from 5 to 9 p.m. John Burris will conduct the funeral at Saturday at Oak Grove Church of Christ Holiness, Hammond, at 11 a.m. Burial will be in Holly Garden Cemetery. *************************************************************************** Obituary published in The Advocate (Baton Rouge) on: 6/15/2003 NORTON, VERNA LEE MORRIS A retired medical technologist at Baton Rouge General Medical Center and a resident of Baton Rouge, she passed away Friday, June 13, 2003, at Baton Rouge General Medical Center. Interment in Roselawn Memorial Park. Survived by a daughter, Marsha Dean Norton of Baton Rouge; a son, Edward William Norton III of Birmingham, Ala.; a daughter-in-law, Martina Shepherd Norton; two sisters, Marjorie Merium Turner of Morgan City and Anel Joyce Lasseter of Savannah, Ga.; a brother, Edwin Merell Morris of Amite; and four grandchildren, Gregory Leonard Goldstein, Edward Joshua Norton, Amy Elizabeth Norton and Meryl Lee Norton. Preceded in death by her father, Milton M. Morris; mother, Mary Bennett Morris; and husband, Edward William Norton Jr. Pallbearers will be Bobby Lee, Ricky Norton, Steve Kirby, Fox Ford, Wayne Daniel and James White. Honorary pallbearers are Glenn Tregre, Milton Morris, Gregory Goldstein, Joshua Norton, David Holdeman, Neal Horton, Lynn Browning, Jonas Holdeman Jr. and Eric Lasseter.
