She died Tuesday, Aug. 10, 2004, at 5:15 p.m. at The Care Center. She was 98. Visitation at Greenoaks Funeral Home on Thursday from noon until religious service at 2 p.m., conducted by the Rev. Shelton Fabre. Interment in Greenoaks Memorial Park. She is survived by a daughter and son-in law, Theresa Noto Millet and Wilson P. Millet; a granddaughter, Amanda Marie Millet; a brother-in-law and wife, Emile and Francis Ann Noto; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bernard Noto; parents, Mr. and Mrs. Peter Dieterich; two brothers, Joseph Dieterich and Peter Dieterich Jr.; and a sister, Katie Dieterich Pichard. "SMOKEY" His zest for living and his love of people made him special. He was fun-loving and had a positive attitude about life until the end. Emile Joseph "Smokey" Noto left this world to be with our Savior, Jesus Christ, at 3:15 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 6, 2005. He was a longtime resident of Baton Rouge and was born Aug. 21, 1913, in Independence. A U.S. Army veteran of World War II, he considered himself lucky to have survived the attack on Pearl Harbor, to be in Berlin, Germany, for the declaration of the end of war and to be stationed in Reimes, France, for the signing of the peace treaty. He was proud to have served his country and he loved to share his war stories with family, friends and anyone who would listen. He was a member and president for 22 years of the Merry Whirlers Dance Club, past president and member of the Cavaliers Men's Club, past president and member of the American Italian Men's Association, member for 50 years of American Legion Nicholson Post 38 and the United Commercial Travelers, and member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Al Hambra organization. He was a founding member of Associated Grocers, owner and operator of Noto's A.G. Grocery for 28 years and the North Baton Rouge Candy Co. for 20 years. After almost 50 years of hard work, he decided to share his passion for traveling with others by creating Noto Tours. He loved to plan group trips for family and friends. He was an usher and longtime parishioner of St. Jean Vianney Catholic Church. He graduated from Baton Rouge High School in 1935. It was there, while playing baseball, that he claimed to have earned the nickname "Smokey" for running the bases so fast. As a talented athlete, he played every sport in high school and was a "star" player for the first American Legion baseball team in Baton Rouge. He is survived by his favorite dance partner and loving wife of 57 years, Fran Ragusa Noto; daughters, Libby Noto, Carolyn Noto LeBlanc and Katy Noto Gill; sons-in- law, Darrell LeBlanc and Ronnie Gill; grandchildren, Keith Schexnayder Jr. and wife, Brenda, Kelly Schexnayder Bankston and her husband, Brian, Kevin Schexnayder and his wife, Farrah, Brandon, JenŽ and Jacelyn LeBlanc, Ryan Gill and his wife, Heather, and Jenny and Kaley Gill; great-grandchildren, Kyle and Karlyn Bankston, Ali Schexnayder and Ross Lemoine; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Theresa Noto; brothers, Ben Noto, Dr. Joseph Noto and Peter Noto; and sisters, Ginny Miranda, Sara Leggio and Mary Rosso. Tony L. Noto Sr., 78 years old of Independence, Louisiana, passed away Wednesday, October 3, 2012, at Richard Murphy Hospice House. He was born on Thursday, November 9, 1933, in Tickfaw. Mr. Tony was an Air Force, Korean War Veteran, past board member of The Independence Housing Authority, member of The American Legion Post 109, Independence, where he was Chaplain and Past Commander. He was a member of The Knights of Columbus, Ind. LA. and the Disalabled American Veterans. He was also a past board member of the War Veterans Home in Jackson LA. and served on the Tangipahoa Parish School Board and the Northlake Area Transplant Support Group. Surviving are wife of 37 years, Pearl Hano Noto, children, Loretta Patti (Joe), Tony Noto Jr. (Donna), Olin Noto, Michael Noto (Robin), Brittany Miller, Bill Monteleone (Mary), Michael Monteleone (Rhonda), Barbara Ruppert (Greg), and Toni Monteleone, also survived by 26 grandchildren and numerous great- grandchildren,, sisters, Ann Farris, Josie Drago, Sara Bocage and Lucy Bellavia, brothers, Victor and Sam Noto.
