She was 80. Mrs. O'Quinn was the daughter of the late Edward King Dickey, who was of Magnolia, Miss., and Viola Rolfs Dickey, who was of New Orleans. She is survived by her loving husband of 60 years, Varnie O'Quinn; her daughter, Sharon O'Quinn Linton of Metairie; her son, Thomas Edward O'Quinn of Roswell, Ga.; eight grandchildren, Michelle Linton, Sherri Linton Barker and Michael Linton, all of Metairie, and Elizabeth O'Quinn Nelsen, Elaine O'Quinn, Steven O'Quinn, Margaret O'Quinn and Christopher O'Quinn, all of Roswell; and three great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn Barker, Eric Nelsen and John Nelsen. Mrs. O'Quinn was a native of New Orleans, where she lived until she retired to Killian in 1982, and recently moved to Ponchatoula. Visitation at Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home, Ponchatoula, from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral service at Killian First Baptist Church, 27978 La. 22, Killian, at 11 a.m. Wednesday. Visiting at the church after 10 a.m. Wednesday. Interment in church cemetery. *************************************************************************** Obituary published in the Hammond Daily Star on: 10/28/2011 O'QUINN, VARNIE Varnie O'Quinn passed away at his home in Ponchatoula, LA, on October 26, 2011 at the age of 90 after a lengthy illness. Mr. O'Quinn was born in Osyka, MS, on July 17, 1921 son of the late Charles and Lily Varnado O'Quinn. Varnie served in the Army during WW II as a Staff Sergeant and was employed with South Central Bell where he worked himself up from a repairman to District Plant Manager during his 42 years with the company. He lived most of his life in Metairie, LA, with his loving wife of 60 years Edwina Agnes Dickey O'Quinn who passed in 2002 and their two surviving children, Sharon O'Quinn Linton of Metairie, LA, and Thomas Edward O'Quinn, currently of Roswell, GA. Mr. O'Quinn and his wife moved to Springfield, LA, after retiring in 1983 where they lived on the Tickfaw River. Along with his two children he is survived by 8 grandchildren, Michelle and Michael Linton, Sherri Linton Hartenstein, Liz O'Quinn Nelsen, Elaine, Steve, Margaret and Christopher O'Quinn & 5 great-grandchildren Eric, John and Marie Nelsen, Kaitlyn Barker and Madison Hartenstein. Family, friends, members of the Killian First Baptist Church and employees of AT&T are invited to the visitation on Saturday, October 29, 2011 from 11:00 am until services begin at 2:00 pm at Harry McKneely & Son in Hammond. Interment will follow in the Killian Baptist Church Cemetery - Killian, Louisiana. He was a native of Centreville, Miss. He is survived by his wife, Louise Mithcell O'Quinn of Springfield; three brothers, Clarence and Rance O'Quinn, both of Springfield, Mass., and Oralamont of Centreville, Miss.; six sisters, Laura Smith, Phalba Plummer, Cherylanne Jones and Denise O'Quinn, all of Springfield, Mass., Dorothy Brightman of New Orleans and Agnes Houston of Dayton Beach, Fla. Visitation will be Saturday at Greater Saint James Baptist Church, Tickfaw, from 10 a.m. until the Rev. Wilbur Jones conducts the funeral at 11. Burial will be in Galilee Cemetery, Springfield.
